I worked at Ace Hardware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When you have a great management system at the location the possibilities are endless. There's room for advancement, a great deal of knowledge to be learned, and a great opportunity to make lifelong friends.

    Cons

Ace Hardware is a franchise operation and therefore has a different ownership for each property. That can be a blessing or a nightmare. One location has an owner that treated employees terribly. God forbid you were a woman working there and knew what you were doing. Because it's a franchise there can be a lot of nepotism and favoritism with family friends; even if they are not qualified to be employed at the store.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to stay involved. Listen to all sides of every story and provide punishment accordingly. Even if it is your child causing all the problems, please take action to correct the issue.

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The most rewarding aspect of working for Kortendick Hardware is the relationships/friendships you make with your customers.

    Cons

Management is horrible!!! When taking the proper steps per the employee handbook to resolve harassment from a shift manager NOTHING is ever addressed nor resolved or held responsible for their actions and because the said management is a family member of the owner the owner is kept in the dark of the harassment!
You get hired being told the hours you will be working which sounds great only so be scheduled the complete opposite.
Raises are pretty much NON exsistant or you have to beg for months only to get a quarter and that is if you are well liked and it can take up to 2 years before you ever get a raise.
Employees working 18 plus years are just now seeing $10.00 and maybe even $10.50 if you beg hard enough but new hires or employees that have half the amount of years are being paid close to $14.00 an hour!
As for ANY type of bonus ..... count that out!!!
Absolutely NO store meetings not even once a year to even get any input from their employees to make an enjoyable work environment!

    Advice to Management

Get your act together appreciate and communicate with you staff ! RESOLVE or make the attempt to resolve issues being brought to your attention!

I worked at Ace Hardware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Day time job. Worked around my school schedule. Customers were super nice and made job bareable.

    Cons

Management was terrible and do not care about anyone working below them. Crappy owners who are completely money hungry and a-holes. Low pay for the amount of work you are expected to do. No advancement.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better. I worked for DG ace hardware for 2 years in Palm coast and bunnell Florida. I was a loyal worker, never missed a day of work. I made a mistake that was correctable on the POS system and was terminated on the spot without a written warning by the owner and management. Management is cruel and talk down to employees. The owners are rude and only care about money. I would not recommend working for DG ace hardware in particular. There is no room for advancement unless you are a favorite.

    Pros

Partial to younger employees for an older employee to survive new bosses raft must have at least 4 years seniority or else you arenomaking the cut prefer employees ages 15-18

    Cons

will not offer full time because they do not want to have to copperate with Obama Cares new health coverage policies so they will only hire part time and they are not ashamed of this behavior at all they will straight up tell you you are not allowed to work over 28 hours a week so they are in the safe zone only bosses are allowed to be considered full time employees and they get at least 16 hours of overtime per week plus all benefits very very unfair

    Advice to Management

Customers are the key to very successful businesses yes this is very true but without employees during the day shift in fall, winter, & most of spring to serve those customers while the youngins are in school how you going to conduct business then unless of course you're not concerned about education therefore you would not really care to know if you are hiring drop outs
