Good people are leaving... and leadership doesn't see themselves as the problem

      Pros

Great product, AMAZING co-workers, remote work is possible.

      Cons

Management doesn't care if something is not possible, they set people up to fail. Leadership severely lacking at the top: policies are not consistent from team to team, vision is not consistent and they don't seem to care much about the customer (KIDS), only the dollars that districts bring to the investment group. Decision making is short sighted and lots of misleading information is given to employees and customers about where the company is going.

      Not Sure What Happened

      Pros

You make money. Decent product. Great vacation time. Good work life balance.

      Cons

Company is falling apart at the seams. Upper management sends employees videos of themselves on work trips enjoying extracurricular activities. The office atmosphere is abysmal. There is no culture or diversity. Bottom line is all about saving money, yet the exec team gets catered lunches and business trips monthly. A mural was just installed in an office where the mood is drab. How we had money for that is beyond anyone's understanding. Employees are fired and laid off on a weekly basis, and no one is replaced. Work is spread to already maxed out employees. Certain departments are overstaffed with 'director' positions with no direct reports, while others are told 'we are unable to promote you due to budget.' The office fits about 150 employees, yet there are more than 60 empty cubes. Upper is management is never in office, yet they demand everyone else report daily. Recently an email was sent out demanding everyone to report to the office to impress a big wig, who was paying a visit to the office. Office sure looked full that day with people who had never reported to the office before.

      Pros

      Great co-workers. Great product.

      Cons

Some documenting processes are redundant. Back-to-school season is basically mid-July through Christmas... don't plan on being home more than one night per week. The people who develop the teacher training materials work hard, but we never used them as we got them. We still had to tweak them (always) to fit the reality of being in the field compared to the dream world they were developed in.

      Pros

      - Great product with a great mission. Who doesn't want to help kids read? - Highly skilled and motivated employees who genuinely care - Remote work available

      Cons

      - Like other reviewers have pointed out, you will be mircomanaged like you have never been mircomanaged before. - High volume employee turnover (both because of people are let go and because of burn-out resignations) - So many meetings - Difficult to innovate because (1) everyone is in meetings all of the time and (2) upper management only trusts ideas that they think up

      Pros

extra days off for religious holidays, great product training for new hires, good product which makes you feel like it’s all worth it (temporarily), decent pay

      Cons

Don’t drink the Kool-Aid! “The job is portrayed as having autonomy and impact when in reality it is a bait and switch to a menial job with no support. People are treated as dispensable. Customers notice and are not fooled by the internal struggles. Worst company I've ever worked for. I was fooled by the CEO's hype.” In my short time there, I found that employee turnover is extremely high. I wish I had read these reviews before taking the job. The people who are happy here are robots. Snake-like behavior creates a culture of fear. If you have any self-respect or integrity at all, this place will remove any confidence that you have something to offer. Normal companies give you the autonomy and responsibility to manage your job well, without being micromanaged. This is not a normal place of business. “I really think all these positive reviews on this site, were written by Achieve3000's HR Dept trying balance out all the REAL reviews!” (I've quoted some of the previous reviews on this site as I had the identical experiences.)

      Pros

The company has a great product in teaching students to read better.

      Cons

The CEO's primary goal is to make money. Helping students is secondary and the employees that work there are a way down on the list.
