    Pros

*Excellent cast of characters to work with (not necessarily for)
*Plenty of opportunity for cross training
    *great work/home balance

    Cons

*Leadership issues pie-in-the-sky mandates with no plan for execution, nor any comprehension of what is required.
*feels like several different offices instead of one company. Some locations are better than others.
*there is a profound lack of trust in upper management, with reason.
*The culture is changing with new leadership, not sure it is for the better.

    Advice to Management

Treat people right, or you'll lose all your A players. I'm looking at you, C levels.

I worked at Actian full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome people, great work environment, great work/home balance - when the company was still Pervasive Software I would most likely have kept my job for as long as I could

    Cons

Upper management provided(s) not transparency and unless your part of the "in club" then you will never know what's going on

    Advice to Management

Get back to where you were by listening to your employees - that are the ones keeping your business going so the are more important than you lead them to believe

I worked at Actian (More than a year)

    Pros

Great People to work with. The personnel on the SE team were a great group to work with. Technology was great.

    Cons

Upper management was very secretive and did not communicate well. Shutting down a major segment of the business and impacting a large number of employees with just days notice if very inconsiderate and unethical.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to sell the company, at least communicate it to employees so they can support the sales effort.

I have been working at Actian full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Owned by a great private equity firm. Provides a great variety of snacks and drinks. Friendly and helpful internal IT support.

    Cons

Too many silos, poor execution, consistent turnover/lay-offs. Middle management lacks the motivation to improve company culture and morale. No opportunity for career growth. A lot of gossip behind people's back.

    Would not recommend

    Advice to Management

Hire better managers and directors. Be transparent with the company's direction. Improve compensation and reward high performing employees. Bonuses should be paid on individual performance not based on the company's overall performance.

I worked at Actian full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The former executive team actually cared about the employees and wanted to see them succeed. The product was innovative and customers cared.

    Cons

The sales operations team was arrogant and didn't want to understand different ways to problem solve. The executive team that took over didn't care about efficiency.

    Advice to Management

Should have listened to the engineering team more.
