I worked at Actuate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no pros .. They got recently acquired by OpenText and I hope things change for better. You will get to see three floors of empty office.

    Cons

This place functions like some African governmental Department. They have no product strategy in place. They have no good Product Managers or Analysts. Engineering Management is laughable . Do not get me wrong, they have like 20 years of experience but in the same company so they have no idea what is going on in outside world. All good talented engineers were so frustrated they all quit for better opportunities.
The little revenue they generate is from legacy software licenses. I hope OpenText realize the mistake they made very soon. I would let go Engineering Management and hire someone with talent.
In sum, this is where careers go to die. Beware of the fake four star reviews by management

    Advice to Management

OpenText, you have been duped in paying such a huge sum for a piece of garbage. Write this off as a loss in your accounts and move on.

I have been working at Actuate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They have a good mix of products that are in demand right now.

    Cons

They moved the sales organization from a perpetual license model to a subscription model. They do not care the effect of that change as it relates to the commission rates verses the annual number. Their lack of commitment to their clients and their employees is a receipt for disaster.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the customer, in today's world of social media your need to provide a high level of customer focus and commitment to build a strong reputation and repeatable business.

I worked at Actuate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Exposure to many departments and workings of the company. Great pay for an entry level job with no experience required.

    Cons

No official training program so very challenging to learn when no experience was required. The team was extremely backlogged so it was high pressure and high stress. Very specific team and company culture that does't fit everyone. No clear communication between management and team about expectations and tasks.

The benefits are outstanding, especially for those requiring full family/partner benefits. Many other perks include a free gym on campus, delightful location near the SF Bay.

    Cons

None that I have seen to date.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing now, employees and customers alike seem very pleased with the recent evolution of changes which are all positive.

    Pros

Access to managers who can make decisions. Everyone on board has the goal of doing something great to be successful in their career.

    Cons

Everything has to get approved by the CEO regardless of amount or strategic influence.

    Advice to Management

Let the people who get feedback from the field feel good about suggesting change, rather than being scared to speak their mind.

I have been working at Actuate full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I've been with Actuate for nearly 10 years and am very happy here. The company invests in its employees and takes care of those who perform. Provides a great work-life balance and the opportunity to learn and grow in areas of professional interest. Promotes collaboration and cohesiveness both within and between departments and this fosters a very positive work environment.

    Cons

I really don't have anything negative to say--I wish the office was a little closer to home but I am provided a lot of flexibility to accommodate my commute so this isn't an issue.

    Pros

Friendly professional atmosphere, very sales and customer focused.

    Advice to Management

Continue to train the sales force, continue to push marketing.

I have been working at Actuate full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work environment, my manager does not micro-manage, excellent benefits including gym membership reimbursement. Employees do not sit around gossiping, it is more of a small company family atmosphere.

    Cons

The company does not give out large raises, but they do provide frequent promotional opportunities for those that want to advance their careers.

    Advice to Management

Direct managers are asked to communicate company vision and strategy, but most employees want to hear it directly from the top.
