I have been working at Acumen Brands

    Pros

GREAT health care benefits (fully paid), free snacks/drinks, willingness to work around school schedule for college students, great atmosphere, and challenging work that encourages thinking outside of the box. It took years of hard work to get the knowledge required to get where I wanted to be. Acumen is always willing to move employees to a different job whether they are moving up the ladder or if it is a lateral move...

    Cons

The company is young and small causing there to seem like there are "cliques". These "cliques" are in fact management but because the company is still a small company management often works along side the employee making it seem as though they are not management on occasion. This also creates the illusion that management is not working when they are not on the floor with the employees. This is a "Con" with most small...

    Advice to Management

No advice. Even with the experience I have with the company I do not have the right to give advice unless it is asked for.

    I worked at Acumen Brands

    Pros

Great employees, casual dress, stocked kitchen, creative freedom, support of new ideas.

    Cons

Lots of layoffs, lack of clear vision, management keeps employees in the dark, projects and new tools aren't utilized upon completion, overall feeling of anxiety.

    Advice to Management

I worked here for just shy of two years and somehow made it through 4 huge layoffs. I quit the company a month after the 4th. Here's my advice: Hire from within. Stop bringing in new people when you have ones who have been faithful and loyal for years. Bandaid fix employees that you bring in for the current short term goal shouldn't be the answer when you're just going to lay more off every quarter. Give your employees...

    I worked at Acumen Brands

    Pros

Casual dress code, fully stocked kitchen, friendly co-workers. It's a laid-back atmosphere.

    Cons

There doesn't seem to be any clear indication that those running this company know where it is heading. They try very hard to sell you on the big picture, but because it changes so frequently, you get the feeling that they're just winging it.

    I worked at Acumen Brands

    Pros

Lower level employees are like family. Benefits are good.

    Cons

Trying to sugar coat things and claiming to be "transparent" when that isn't the case. Low pay, a lot of teams over worked. reaching out and engaging employees too late in the game.

    Advice to Management

Everyone knows whats going on, the people left have been loyal and just want you to be honest with them. Instead keeping them in the dark and make believing that things are looking up. Acumen used to be a place that everyone wanted to work at and no one wanted to leave. Now the people left are there because they need a paycheck.

    I worked at Acumen Brands

    Pros

Easy to make work friends, fully stocked kitchen, casual dress code.

    Cons

Bureaucracy woes. Too many higher ups in charge of a few people. Not really much upward mobility for people unless you were in the "in crowd."

I worked at Acumen Brands full-time

    Pros

This is a good company to work for when they are doing well. Snacks are provided (which include cereal for breakfast and plenty of fruit). Very casual dress code. Coworkers and the management I dealt with were nice. There is room for growth as I saw many people change from one role to the next (even though I was not one of them).

    Cons

When the company isn't doing so well, they will lay off people. Unstable company as it seems that they do not know what direction they are going.

    Advice to Management

Make a road map of where you are going and stick to it. Hire the people you need to travel down that road map and not anyone that you are going to be laying off in a few months/weeks.

I worked at Acumen Brands full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I made some really great friends!

    Cons

Once upon a time, working for Acumen was a really cool thing. Everyone wanted to jump on the startup bandwagon. But, as time went on (and those of us who made it through many rounds of lay-offs) it got really bad. Now a days, I am truly embarrassed to have this company on my resume - as I fear other employers may think I have poor judgement working for such a company.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to focus less on yourselves, and more on your employees. The company is not doing well - and the community knows this.
