Great Young Company for Careers or a Stepping Stone to One

    Sep 17, 2015 -

    Pros

GREAT health care benefits (fully paid), free snacks/drinks, willingness to work around school schedule for college students, great atmosphere, and challenging work that encourages thinking outside of the box. It took years of hard work to get the knowledge required to get where I wanted to be. Acumen is always willing to move employees to a different job whether they are moving up the ladder or if it is a lateral move to keep them challenged, assuming the employee has knowledge of the job(area), past experience, or a degree in that field required to make that move(for obvious reasons you will not get a position you haven't earned or have no experience in, as with any job).

    Cons

The company is young and small causing there to seem like there are "cliques". These "cliques" are in fact management but because the company is still a small company management often works along side the employee making it seem as though they are not management on occasion. This also creates the illusion that management is not working when they are not on the floor with the employees. This is a "Con" with most small companies though it is not really a bad thing.

Enough good to be okay for a job, but not for a career (unless you're in the "in crowd")

    Pros

Relaxed culture, casual dress. Free snacks (fruit, yogurt, trail mix, bagels, etc.) and free soft drinks. Most departments have the flexibility to work from home if needed. Company paid health insurance.

    Cons

Very cliquish/favoritism. No retirement account. Lots of ups and downs with the number of employees. More concerned with growing revenue than getting it right. Really bad with interdepartmental communication, somewhat due to the speed at which they try to move.

    No Future

Mar 31, 2016 - Marketing in Fayetteville, AR

    Pros

The dress code, fairly laid back atmosphere. Some very basic, but free, snacks.

    Cons

Really, the dress code and atmosphere are just excuses to give you less pay and claim a "start up" atmosphere. Two to three years ago, this was considered one of the coolest places to work. Now, there really isn't much of a future. Numerous layoffs, a declining industry, and financial mismanagement have left its future looking bleak. In full disclosure, I was laid off from this company. I am not writing this to get revenge. I am much better off now than I was while I was there. I am writing this because there will be people who will possibly have a chance to work at this company, and it would be best if they knew what they were getting into. The atmosphere and people make employment there seem attractive. The free snacks are nice. Really though, if you are young, or not young, and you have career options, it might be best to consider other places. The stability is not very high, the future uncertain, management extremely poor, and personal connections are valued over skill and acumen. The industry, despite what they may claim, is not well. This company was a paper tiger that has come crashing down. At one point, working here could get you a better job. Now the name is becoming a liability.

Fast moving company that gives limited employee feedback and fires at will

    Pros

Seemingly low stress work atmosphere, open kitchen of breakfast, snacks, etc. Subsidized catered lunches.

    Cons

Managers give little to no feedback of job learning or feedback and make for a hard time learning how to progress and not get fired/laid off. No retirement fund. Low pay.

Good company to work for when they are doing well.

    Pros

This is a good company to work for when they are doing well. Snacks are provided (which include cereal for breakfast and plenty of fruit). Very casual dress code. Coworkers and the management I dealt with were nice. There is room for growth as I saw many people change from one role to the next (even though I was not one of them).

    Cons

When the company isn't doing so well, they will lay off people. Unstable company as it seems that they do not know what direction they are going.

    Pros

Great employees, casual dress, stocked kitchen, creative freedom, support of new ideas.

    Cons

Lots of layoffs, lack of clear vision, management keeps employees in the dark, projects and new tools aren't utilized upon completion, overall feeling of anxiety.

    An Interesting Experience

Feb 23, 2015 - Software Engineer in Fayetteville, AR

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The company experienced a massive period of very rapid growth. It was a pretty fun ride and there was no end of genuinely interesting things to accomplish there. I had some of the most challenging projects I've ever worked on during my tenure there.

    Cons

The organization had issues appropriately handling a transition from a start-up to a larger organization. The desire to apply hands-on management in scenarios that wouldn't be handled by it was a bit too frequent. Communication between departments was also a big issues; there were many times when it felt like one hand didn't know what the other was doing.
