I have been working at Acushnet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Acushnet is home to some of top brands in golf and is very committed to the sport. It is a solid company and employees are very loyal. It's not uncommon to see people who have been at Acushnet for over 20 years, so they clearly engender employee loyalty.

    Cons

Some of the technology at Acushnet (ERP system specifically) is hard to maneuver and it can be very frustrating to have your job functions hampered by the systems put in place to improve performance.

    Advice to Management

A little communication and training would smooth over some of the current difficulties. A shared vision and some common goals would be wonderful.

    Cons

Late notice from upper management on movement within company, too many products that can effect inventory

I worked at Acushnet (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to represent the most prestigious name in the golf industry. Quality products that are top sellers in nearly every golf shop. Great customer base who are very loyal to the brand. I always had a great relationship with my immediate managers and felt that they were always on your side. Pay used to be good when you were promoted to the field, but that has changed in recent years.

    Cons

It has been very sad to see the decline of this company as the new (private) ownership has changed the overall atmosphere. This company used to value its employees and that showed in the long tenure of many of the sales representatives. Recently there have been many layoffs purely for the reason to cut costs and increase the company's value on paper with no regard for the future. I made the mistake of having loyalty towards the company and thinking it would always be there for me. Morale has been plummeting as long term (and productive) employees have been let go with no warning.
On the product side, the motto has seemed to be "Fire, Ready, Aim" in recent years which has resulted in frustrated customers waiting for backordered product.
Definitely a male dominated operation -- especially on the sales and management fronts.

    Advice to Management

The human capital is what fuels the strength and respect of the Titleist and FootJoy brands. I am certain the the directives are coming from up high to cut costs and maximize value, but it has had a devastating effect on the company image (on the inside and outside). My hope is that a future with new ownership (public or private) can help restore what has been lost. It is truly unfortunate as this was a company that was unique in the golf industry as one that clearly valued and respected employees at one point.
