I worked at Acxiom full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of new technology, good people, solid benefits and ok salaries. If you are right out of college there is a lot to learn, but don't stay too long.

    Cons

There is very little job mobility at Acxiom. There are a few opportunities to move laterally, but most of the true promotions are limited to those who have family or friends that have worked for Acxiom a long time. For me, I got boxed in to a job role and they wouldn't let me out of it without relocating to Austin. A place that wasn't going to have any servers, they just wanted to fill sits they were already paying for.

    Advice to Management

Be more strategic in your financial planning and maybe you won't have to do a layoff every 18-24 months.

    Pros

for the most part, the people are AWESOME! most exhibit a caring, family-type environment that makes it worth the drive to work every day, even during stressful projects.

    Cons

new leadership outside of central AR don't have the same leadership/culture mindset that built Acxiom. While it's great to challenge and look at new ways, they don't value tenure or any historical business experience.

    Advice to Management

hold leaders accountable...quit protecting & making excuses. they are being paid to be leaders - make them earn it. stop paying severance for performance issues - again, lack of leadership!

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule, minimal micromanagement

    Cons

Poor salaries (for some), little diversity, little overall employee appreciation, promotion is based on who you know and not what you know

    Advice to Management

Stop making it about you and more about the whole team

"An Uninspiring Place for Big Data Analytics"

I worked at Acxiom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company is a data provider at the forefront of a sea change in digital advertising buying and selling; my location boasted a terrific culture; corporate senior leaders are open and transparent; decent benefits package.

    Cons

Acxiom brands itself as a data provider so that advanced big data analytics is an afterthought. With few exceptions, big data analytics skills and tools are outdated and outclassed; some teams are downright hostile to new and different ideas; with my group, so many 'wait-and-see' partnership negotiations made for very light workload.

    Advice to Management

With big data analytics, lead or get out of the way. Either invest heavily in talent and tools and brand yourselves an analytics play as much as you do an infrastructure play, or, cede analytics to more capable partners.
