    Pros

Wonderful staff and management. The leadership truly cares about their staff's growth and happiness.

    Cons

Unless you have a highly applicable degree the growth long term is very limited.

I worked at Ada County Highway District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people for the most part. Lots of inhouse training. Great advancement opportunities.

    Cons

Director that doesn't know Road Construction. Wants to run company like a Military Institution. Carries an axe and you better watch out not to cross him or you will be fired. Office Politics are terrible and not much is done to back an employee in good standing. It's a fishbowl full of Piranha.

    Advice to Management

    Stand by your people.

I worked at Ada County Highway District full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pretty laid back atmosphere amongst co-workers that are not in managerial positions.
Very much enjoyed the benefits (sick and paid leave days).

    Cons

The biggest issue with ACHD was the structure. I worked at the bottom of the 'chain of command' and had 3 people I had to directly answered to, one of which wasn't really part of our "department"... which led me and eventually several others leaving because of this manager. Almost everyone in that building was miserable because of this 1 person. If that person is still working there it tells me H.R. is too incompetent to do their job, or maybe they just have too many supervisors and managers micromanaging everyone and the complaining party never really makes it past the chain of command to get the word out to H.R. If you enjoyed your time in the military, you'll enjoy this place. Prepare to take a lot of BS from a lot of people. The hourly/salary pay was a sorry joke for some of the departments. If you aren't working in the main building or in a high ranking managerial position, expect to see very small paychecks. This may have changed, but don't hold your breath as this is county, not city or state. -- Edit: Wow, I just read the other reviews and it's scary to see the resemblance... so new employees better not be surprised.

    Advice to Management

H.R. should take feedback from people not in a managerial position more seriously. Carefully evaluate each department based on employee experience in the work place. Earn that 6 figure salary. Personally found out the 2 managers in my building were miserable because of the new hire.

I have been working at Ada County Highway District full-time

    Pros

    Employee benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Employee morale is not as good as management thinks.

    Advice to Management

STOP favortism towards same certain employees by giving them 10% raises almost every year. No matter how many employee assessments are reviewed by director, it's NOT good for overall employee morale.

    Pros

    Working folks are good people.

    Cons

Very much the old boy network. Current management is ex-military, so the like to have people that don't talk back, will put up with abuse, and eat their crap. Top execs have no experience in the area they work in, but they are good old boys. All out for their own political gain. Current Director likes to speak of himself, he's just trying to move up in the political arena. His past experience has lots of skeletons.

    Advice to Management

Trust the one your talking to, but most of all look into there eyes, the heart will reveille the truth.
