  4. "Working onsite at Google as a temp, vendor, or contractor (TVC)? Beware."

I have been working at Adecco USA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Health insurance is offered by Adecco, taking a temp position at Google offers an opportunity to "get your foot in the door", Adecco is responsive to questions about insurance, sick days, etc. when they come up, TVCs get access to free food and snacks onsite at Google and very cheap GBUS rides

    Cons

Adecco takes a large share of the contract payment for your onsite contract at Google, contract negotiation is difficult (or impossible?), healthcare is offered, but very expensive, (virtually) no PTO, only 3 days of sick leave per year, no 401k or other benefits offered, the promise of "getting your foot in the door" at Google does not guarantee conversion to full time employment at Google (in some cases, coming on as a TVC makes it harder), often TVCs work on more than what their contract states, but because of legal concern about co-employment liability, Googlers take credit for TVC work, working on-site at Google does not include many benefits afforded to Google employees (team off-sites, Grow classes, healthcare, retirement benefits, etc)

    Advice to Management

It's hard to say "stop existing", but Adecco should hold larger companies accountable for hiring temps to do permanent jobs: it is not acceptable for hard working temps to work onsite at Google for 2 years, doing just as much cross-functional work as Google FTEs, but not being able to take credit for it, and getting fewer benefits along the way. This is a common experience for TVCs working onsite at Google, but TVCs don't want to tell their employer the truth because there is no way to do so safely without risk of being reprimanded or fired (as if it's the contractor's fault). Temp / contract positions should be reserved for truly temporary employment (i.e. a retailer who needs to hire another person for the Christmas shopping season), not just a way around Google having a lack of headcount for a full-time Google employee (FTE) on site. In my contract at Google, I've done much more than the contract explicitly stated, working on much more than the "single project" I was hired to work on, which I'm sure strays dangerously close to what both Adecco and Google fear: dreaded co-employment liability. However, this is a common experience--all you have to do is Google the issue and read the endless TVC reviews on Glassdoor and other sites. If Adecco cares about more than just the bottom line, they should cut themselves out of the picture when it comes to this type of gross abuse of contract employees. Unfortunately, I doubt Adecco will ever write itself out of the story as long as they stand to gain from the situation. So, in lieu of systemic change: buyer beware. I do not recommend working for Adecco as a TVC onsite at Google.

I worked at Adecco USA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Adecco is great for military spouses because of the global reach and number of locations. The shorter tenured staff teams work ideally for frequent change.

    Cons

Staff turnover is high on every level of employment and management. Compensation is less than competitive. Hours and expectations are unrealistic. All locations need additional support staff to manage locations effectively. The company boasts on training /growth opportunities and paid time off, but the staff is too minimal to capitalize on either.

    Advice to Management

Hire the appropriate staff support teams to effectively service your customers and your employees, both internal and external. Spend more time educating your customers on the market information impacting their business, and less time allowing your customers directing you on how to manage your company. You are the epitome of co-employment. Establish your salary guidelines to mirror your annual salary guide issued to your customers, follow your own suggestions. Strengthen your Corporate HR group and listen to your own HR representatives and trainers. Get to know your business and compare that to your market environment. Large changes of corporate leadership should be made and reflected in the ability to manage effective market changes with customers, both small and large. You appear too afraid to untie the anchors to realize that you're sinking the boats and ships that reap your fortune.

    Pros

Ability to support national and international clients. Corporate proposal team was a tremendous help responding to RFPs with quick turnaround.

    Cons

Extremely large company with tremendous up and downs, financially. Difficult to implement and properly communicate policies given so many people need to be involved to implement. Mass layoffs are a majority reality following two to three down quarters.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to get all regions and managers on the same page before implementing any major channges to procedures
