I worked at Adelanto School District full-time

    Pros

Professional staffing, Always attempting to place the better qualified District staff in new positions, resulting in high turn over. Starting pay scale above average for the first 5 years. Good benefits but costly. Small, intimate organization.

    Cons

Slow to implement new technology, implements various teaching philosophizes without completing current philosophy, District-wide micromanaging philosophy. Not enough attention given to teacher input for solutions. Lack of stability at the top and no clear vision from year to year. because of size benefits are costly. District staff slow to respond to teachers requests for support.

    Advice to Management

Use your personnel resources more wisely. Spend some time getting to know your staff and initiatives in play before implementing your initiatives to leave your mark on your new assignment.

    Pros

High Salary and no cost benefits if single.
Relaxed atmosphere for the most part.
Freedom to express ideas in some departments

    Cons

High turnover for various reasons at the management level.
Distrust of upper management from teachers, principals, and other staff.
    Lack of transparency.
    micromanaging from the top.
A belief that perception is reality rather than fixing the problems.

    Advice to Management

While Adelanto may be a "small" the school district is not so small anymore. The district is growing and all departments have to grow accordingly. There is a lot to be desired here.

    Pros

Salary and benefits to attract outside people were good.

    Cons

Top district personnel think nothing of breaking contracts of administrators. The union protects incompetent teachers as strongly as competent ones. Reverse discrimination also at work here. First place in the nation that the Parent Trigger Law was successfully pulled but one board member even claimed they could drag him out in handcuffs but he would not comply with the law. City Council adds to a problem culture, wanting to cultivate pot for profit in a city with 5 prisons.

    Pros

None at all to speak of

    Cons

The school district is ran poorly and is discourteous in their treatment of employees at best. Extremely high turnaround.

    Advice to Management

    Stay on campus
