I have been working at Adolfson & Peterson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people and the culture; people work hard and are willing to help when others need it.
Managers are willing to let others take the credit for the good things/accomplishments its not all about them.

    Cons

There are times when it is hard to plan Vacation because our work load flexes so much but this is an industry problem more then a company problem.

    Pros

Management is very supportive in giving you what you need to succeed. Work hard and they will reward you. Work/life balance is good overall. Somedays you work a lot and other days the company sends you to a spring training baseball game or you take off to go to your daughter's doctor's appointment etc. PTO and benefits are great!

    Cons

Stress is a little high right now because we are in somewhat of a rebuilding phase, but every company goes through those ups and downs and I think with a little hard work we will get through and the pros will far outweigh the cons.

    Advice to Management

Hire good people and the work will come. Trim the fat as that just weighs AP down and hurts relationships with clients.

    Pros

Good outlook, competent coworkers, decent compensation and good benefits.

    Cons

A-P's On boarding and new employee training have large room for improvement. Office location is terrible.

    Advice to Management

I think it would greatly benefit A&P to try to implement technology into the construction process to the greatest extent possible.

I worked at Adolfson & Peterson full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment and company appreciates employees. Often caters in lunch and breakfast. Company works hard to promote safety and education within the company.

    Cons

Management seems to be more concerned with keeping things how they are than keeping their employees around. When I was there, they were laying off people constantly, but never cut back on the perks. I would rather of kept my job than be fed every day, or have all expense paid fishing trips for a handful of employees.

    Advice to Management

See cons section. Don't say everything is fine when you are actually planning the next round of layoffs. If you tell the company what is going on, they will be more willing to work with you. If you state that either you cut this bonus/frill out of the budget or people will get laid off, most people (the people A&P want) will stay with the company.

    Pros

Chances to grow after entry level position are strong

    Cons

Low salary and benefit package were low. Due to project being chaotic. Renegotiation in process.

    Pros

High pace environment, good staff, and opportunity to learn - expand job duties.

    Cons

Weekend work common, short staffed job-sites, and stressful budgets.

    Advice to Management

Clarify lower level employee duties, specify goals/agendas, allow lower level participation in evaluation of company.

    Pros

The benefits are very good, the people I work with are great to work with and the projects are very good and challenging where I feel like I am being challenged every day.

    Cons

The communication between management and employees is poor at best when it comes to future or upcoming growth. The salary also seems average at best.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest better communication to young employees looking for advise on where they are to be heading and what to be focusing on.

I have been working at Adolfson & Peterson full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

AP has a strong organizational culture, it's not uncommon to hear of employees celebrating 10+ years with the company. Family is one of the foundations of the company and it is apparent in every regional office.

    Cons

Overall in the construction industry, technology is lacking. This is true at AP as well. Some of the equipment and software isn't performing at the service level we are trying to provide.

    Advice to Management

Keep raising the bar on service, don't settle.

    Cons

    Pros

The Leadership Team cares and is continuously listening and working on ways to make the company a great place to work. Good benefit program.

    Cons

The company is in a growing period and as with any company growth requires manpower. Good, qualified, energetic employees can at times be difficult to find.

    Advice to Management

Fill role gaps with the right individuals. Extend opportunity and empower those employees already on board.
