    Pros

Decent pay, especially in more rural areas. It’s rare to find a non-factory job that pays well where I’m from. You also get Sundays off and paid holidays, as well as the opportunity for a substantial bonus if your center performs well. They also promote from within, so there’s room to grow.

Customers are mostly kind and polite, unlike most customer service jobs where people tend to treat you like you’re garbage. I had a ton of favorites. It’s a rewarding feeling to be able to help a customer who is in a sticky situation.

When there are no customers in the center, it’s pretty quiet and relaxed. It really only gets super busy like two days of the month. It’s not a stressful job that you take home with you.

The people who work there, at the center level and above, are generally very pleasant, so if you can find a good team you’ll be very happy. I happened to work with all the best people. Management is respectful and encouraging.

Overall, working here was great, and I liked it. I learned a lot, was treated well, and earned wages equal to my worth.

    Cons

The healthcare is expensive but useless, and corporate tries to make it seem like they’re doing you a huge favor just by offering it. Good, low-deductible health insurance should be a standard for any full-time position.

The company also expects you, the center-level employees, to do a ton of your own marketing for some reason, and it very rarely produces results.

You also have to do collection calls, which are not fun no matter which company you work for, so it isn’t so much a con as a fact of the job. But it’s a huge part of your day.

Sometimes you feel bad for people who get stuck in a reborrowing cycle, but in my center we always helped people find a way out if they were stuck, and my DDO usually always backed me up. If you don’t luck into a good manager/DDO then that might present an ethical dilemma for you. But in my experience, nearly everyone who works there wants to help the customers.

    Advice to Management

Let centers do marketing in the way that best fits their area. Sending out 500 pieces of marketing material per week to the same 20 places over and over is a waste of time and resources for some centers, and doesn’t produce results. It should be more about quality than quantity.

I have been working at Advance America full-time

    Pros

    Training can be good
    Advancement opportunities
    Customer relations

    Cons

    Unrealistic expectations
Constantly short staffed, can't keep a new hire for more than 3 months
Say goodbye to your friends and family (schedule sucks)

    Advice to Management

Take in to consideration every centers situation (staffing, demographics, new management etc) and set realistic expectations. Staff your stores!! Hire an outsider to do this. With the turn over rate the ddo's can't manage this!
