I have been working at Advance Auto Parts full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The roanoke facility has ping pong tables, walking space, and cafateria. For the most part you are aorking with good people.

    Cons

This company is still an old school boys club. There is not much room for advancement for a woman, and if you are colored then just forget about it. If you are a young person in the Roanoke office the best piece of advice I can give you is to move someqhere else if you are trying to build your career. Roanoke is beautiful but the area and especially advance is not going to help you grow. More managers than actual workers and promoting from within the company does not exist at the store support center. They will go for an outside hire. If you want to advance then you will need to leave and come back. This company makes a lot of promises but there is no action and it is making some very good people go. The low pay and emvironment is not worth it.

    Advice to Management

    Promote from within.
Align on company goals and startegies and stick with it
Work to enhance your field team by being less top heavy, having leadership that understands the business, focus on cutomer interaction, and stay abreast with changes in the market and economy ie technology, what you are selling, new business
    Work on rebranding
    Better company culture

    Pros

Great place to work, flexible scheduling and great team of individuals to work with. Upper management gives General managers a great deal of autonomy to make good business decisions

    Cons

Minimal labor hours. Work load is generally high with few workers to execute in a timely manner. No formal automobile systems training

    Advice to Management

Increase labor hours to get more sales

    Pros

Pretty laid back. Ok for someone just looking for some spending money while they're in school. You'll learn basic ins and outs of car maintenance and get to learn from mechanics who purchase from the store.

    Cons

Management is a joke. No real room for advancement. Pay is around 8.00 an hour for parts pros. Your raise is like 10 cents a year. Unless you are a store general manager or corporate you won't make a decent living. They want you to be a mechanic but get paid like a fast food worker. You get a better discount by buying online with promo codes than you do using your employee discount in store.

    Advice to Management

If you want good help that will stay you need to invest in your employees and treat them as if they are beneficial to the company.

    Pros

Nice salary wage, good benefits, good bonus potentially. Good hours compared to most management careers. I enjoy working there a lot

    Cons

Turnover is real, leadership is key if you want to succeed. Other than that it's not a bad place to work

    Pros

It's good practice and experience to work with people and share knowledge over the automotive world. People know me at my store and will come only when I work so they can talk and ask questions. Nobody knows it all. Everyday we learn and strive towards more skills. If you are good with people, you'll love advance auto parts.

    Cons

Depending on the location of where you are you will have the type of people that you will not be able to make them happy. You can save them $100s and they'll still complain.

    Advice to Management

My store management is perfect and easy to work with. Some managers may be less proactive and committed but that's when things are brought up to their attention and things are taken care of.

    Pros

The stores keep you busy all day & night. Never a dull moment

    Cons

So much to accomplish with so little help as store payroll hours depend on sales . You rarely get to go to lunch, you work many times open until close, over time while you are on salary is the normal and is expected & required 60 plus plus hours a week!

    Advice to Management

Give more hours to stores. 265 hours a week to run a store 15 hours a day is crazy!
