I have been working at Advanced Energy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work environment is decent depending on the department you work in. The people are helpful and nice. Everyone wants to do a good job.

    Cons

There is a culture of fear and mistakes are not tolerated, which is not the impression during the interview stage. The pay program is not competitive. In this day and age who has heard of a company not offering a bonus?!

    Advice to Management

Start listening to employees instead of dictating.

    Pros

Good perks at this company. Raises are few and far between as are bonuses. Lower management understand the technology and try to manage.

    Cons

upper management is controlled byt Marketing and causes disastrous changes. Constant changes in upper management leaves little knowledge of what has been done and what should be done.

    Advice to Management

listen to your employees and respect them

I have been working at Advanced Energy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, overtime when it is desired. Respectable health care.

    Cons

Company hasn't kept up with cost of living for years. Employees can consider current moves a pay cut for next year as the company has reduced the amount they give to healthcare costs (with no increase on the part of the Health care provider) and charging the employees the differences. For example someone with a family health plan will see the company reduce their share by 550 a year and the employee will have to pay that extra 550 out of pocket.

Company will bring in temporary help and keep them for over a year without a job offer. They will directly hire on out of state employees with higher salaries than the temps or current employees. This company does not consider prior experience when looking at pay or hire on level except at the upper tiers. A person with 15 years experience in the field will still be brought in as a Level I Technician and expected to work at a level II level for 3 to 5 years before being promoted to level II. The company thinks they have too many level III techs to promote anyone else to that level. Most of the current Level III techs are in their 40's and are not planning on retiring anytime soon.

Bonuses have been limited to upper tiers only. They have added the "Star Performer" program which awards individual bonuses for special situations.

Rewards for such things as set records in output or revenue include pizza parties and perhaps a congratulatory e-mail. The company usually over promises revenue in the fourth quarter to erase the gains and as an excuse to keep raises in check for the following year. Considers the overtime pay a bonus, while expecting 50 hour weeks.

The management is big on dangling carrots that will never come to fruition. The management is big on promising to fix things and having to be reminded about the promises quarter after quarter. Middle management does not seem to advocate for their underlings. They expect certain results without providing the tools to obtain those results by pleading poverty.

This company will be spending 150m to buy back stock to raise the value for the share holders.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people. With the low unemployment rate and high cost of living in the area, people not be able to afford working for you at the lower levels. Remember the lower level people are the ones that turn all your goals and ideas into a sustainable reality.

I worked at Advanced Energy (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Advanced technology, good engineers and interesting challenges.

    Cons

The management focused on the bottom line because they were not successful adding new business. Lowering cost was the word of the day. In the end –in my opinion- they selected to sacrifice the long term strategy for the current revenue. A lot of specialists left the company.

    Advice to Management

Balance the shareholder deliverables vs common sense and a healthy work environment.

They pay well even though they are also paying the staffing agency.

    Cons

They are moving most corporate jobs offshore which makes US based divisions jobs more difficult due to communication and parts availability.
