I have been working at Advanced Sports International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I was pretty nervous about accepting a job at ASI when I saw the bad reviews on Glassdoor, but I'm so glad I did. The bad reviews might have been relevant when they were posted, but there was some management and other changes that have been made prior to me getting here a few months ago. Everyone here is super friendly, dedicated, and excited to come to work! There's a lot of potential to grow in this company within your...

    Cons

To be fair, the company is still rather young (15 years old) and with that does come growing pains. The best practices and process are still being written and rewritten. But, you're a part of making the big decisions and establish the processes and foundations for how the company operates in the future. If you want to coast along and just punch the card, this isn't the place for you. You're given challenges that are exciting,...

    Pros

    Cheap bikes and free coffee

    Cons

    Cheap bikes and dirty bathrooms

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like the Trump Whitehouse where you circle in your sycophantic followers and family to squeeze out any intelligent employees. The cast of characters is just like 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, The CEO is Trump, CMO is Kelly Anne, and the list just goes by the numbers. Kinda sad as they pretend to be so liberal, but suffer from the same small hands problem.

    Pros

Casual environment; good benefits, friendly people, awesome bikes.

    Cons

The communication needs to be better between departments, management often set unrealistic goals, and it's appears that the CEO has his favorites...

    Advice to Management

Communication needs to be improved so that productivity doesn't suffer from it.

    Pros

The work environment is very positive and friendly. Everyone is willing to help one another and work as a team when needed. Everyone is also open to new ideas and is very creative. You can bring your dog to work, which is really helpful if you have a dog.

    Cons

Sometimes things are a bit unorganized, but that doesn't mean senior management doesn't tackle the problem right away.

    Advice to Management

Keep letting your team collaborate together and grow from one another, it works well. Pat is a cool dude!

    Pros

Good benefits package, nice CEO figurehead

    Cons

Classic corporate growth by acquisition model. Appear to have an age bias. Prefers young and inexperienced (but college degreed) to industry experience (even if paid the same) leading to miscalculations and wasted time. But it is done fast... They are actually owned by a Chinese company, which further obscures their motives.

    Advice to Management

They are set in their ways... nothing to say!

I worked at Advanced Sports International

    Pros

Great brands of bikes, lots of potential to create real brands

    Cons

No real reason to provide input on anything and no room to grow within the company. Upper management has no direction, it's all about the deal to hit bonus. Some of the VP's have no business being in their jobs as they have no real knowledge of the industry

    Advice to Management

    Make some upper management changes

I worked at Advanced Sports International full-time

    Pros

They are there worst own enemy, great product but unfortunately there is not a thorough execution.

    Cons

Little to no integrity. Make sure you have physical records of everything because it's more than likely a lie if you don't. Most everyone that works here is promoted from within which for an east coast based cycling company is not the best answer as the cycling industry talent pool is slim to none in the Philadelphia area. Everyone is personally driven and not company driven. You have to watch what you say and how you...

    Pros

A lot of different things going on at this business from warehousing/fulfillment to marketing to finance to product to sales. Cool to be in an environment where you can learn from each of these departments. Fun people and cool CEO.

    Cons

Location in NE Philly can be a pain to get to every day but even still there are some decent lunch options around

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees to thrive and pursue their own ideas. Pair new hires with mentor.

I worked at Advanced Sports International full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

I will say that I never complained about pay or benefits.

    Cons

They clearly shoot first and then aim later. They love to talk about a big picture, but then forget about it when they are a couple grand short of the goal every month without considering any consequences. Only way to get ahead in the company is to brown nose of the marketing VP, regardless of what department you work in, because if she doesn't like you, you will go no where. A bike company should be driven by the...

    Advice to Management

Hire somebody with actual bicycle experience to work in marketing. Racing is not experience. HR and Executive Assistant shouldn't be the same position. It's a conflict of interest. Duh. Reminder, selling at 10% margin isn't selling. Anybody can give product away. Decide whether you want to be a IBD bike brand or a big box brand. Can't have both.

I have been working at Advanced Sports International full-time

    Pros

Extensive medical and dental benefits; fully paid by employer for all employees and 65% paid for dependents. Company-matched 401K plan has recently been instituted. Dog-friendly, casual dress code and casual, friendly atmosphere. The vibe here is upbeat, and highly charged. Currently there are several "rock star" status employees who are really shining in their roles.

    Cons

Difficulty in retaining employees who come to ASI from outside of the Philadelphia area. We really have tried to do something about the weather, but so far....not great results.

    Advice to Management

    Keep the momentum.
