I have been working at Advantest full-time

    Pros

Good pay, lots of autonomy. Tasks are dispatched usually work indepentantly/ alone.

    Cons

Lack of documents, procedures, diagrams. Development tool installation, there is always some part of the task to figure out and document.

    Advice to Management

Good leadership, work balance sometimes mismatched. Support systems are remote, but always timely response. Overall ideal if you like working mainly solo amongst a team.

    Pros

-A great company that looks out for its employees.
    -Benefits are good.
-As an applications engineer you get to work with different clients and learn different techniques and skills along the way.
-Its a very stable company and hence a very stable job. Very few lay offs
-I have yet to meet a rude person while working here
-Bonuses are hit or miss. But when they hit they are pretty good
-Easy to manage work life balance (mostly)
    -Lots of very experienced people
    -Becoming an expert at testing

    Cons

    -Advancing is a slow crawl.
-Getting more than a 1% or 2% raise is very difficult
-Unless you are supporting a superstar customer it is hard to get recognition for doing great work.
-I've met a couple lazy/incompetent engineers who seem to try to do the minimum amount of work for the customers.

I have been working at Advantest (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice QUALITY products on the Advantest side. Decent benefits and competitive pay as long as you're not living in a high cost of living place like California.

    Cons

Place has gone down hill fast after the merger in 2011. Things were never thinned after the merger and now to much upper management and newly added bureaucracy make doing quality work difficult. Main corporate in Japan will not cut the fat so subsidiary's are cut to the bone leaving little support, and now more people leaving the company after 10+ years of service because company is not what it used to be.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and see what the added bureaucracy has done to customer service and support and why you are loosing employees left and right. Cut the over amount of upper management and bureaucracy and stop cutting your customer support teams, as they are the ones in front of and supporting your customers.

I have been working at Advantest full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Talented, helpful, really friendly people
    - Good benefits, sound company ownership
    - Stability of work, planning, and workload
    - Culture, professional environment, extremely fair treatment as individuals
    - Strong product solutions and interesting new projects
    - Refreshing in today's typically 1-2 quarter visioned companies to see this one with a truly long-term thinking

    Cons

    - Slow in critical decision making, lack of entrepreneurial thinking
    - Many times communication is on a "need to know" basis
    - Weak knowledge of English in significant Japanese base

    Advice to Management

    - Manage each business unit as far as size and spending based more closely on their contribution to top line or/and bottom line
    - Properly support application side from locally, where activity happens
    - Recognize, and act on, overworked contributors in extremely successful business units vs. underworked people hanging onto jobs in non-performing units
