I have been working at Advent Asset Management full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Advent Capital management is a great firm. I have been an employee for over ten years and achieved success through hard work, contribution of co-works, and being on the Advent platform. Advent provides all the necessary tools for each employee to get the job done. The environment is one in which co-works look out for each other and develop long term relationships both in and of the office. Although it is irksome to... read the slanderous lies and comments on glass door, I understand that Advent Capital is not for all, there is no proverbial "free lunch". However, the actual free lunch that is provided is quite good. For those who work hard and have a positive attitude, they will be rewarded with success and robust compensation.

    Advice to Management

Advent needs to do a better job in the hiring process to weed out those that are underachievers and have a negative dispositions.

I worked at Advent Asset Management full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The office is lovely, like a dress on a venomous snake.

    Cons

Turnover in 2018 was between 30-40%. Basically a single proprietorship, the boss is a poor manager and sets a tone of fear and insecurity. He is a micromanager who has no skill with human interaction. Lots said about working hard and having ideas - it's continually stressed, but ideas are universally dismissed by the boss who will then insult the person, often firmwide, for said idea. It makes for an environment... where employees are afraid to speak or act independently, and are overall demoralized. Recommendation would be to work here only if you love being abused and marginalized.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to force employees to post fake reviews on GD, at least don't make them sound exactly like you.

    Pros

Advent is a world class organization which offers employees a comfortable work environment to work in. In addition to casual attire, meals are offered to employees twice a week in a cozy kitchen. Several times during the year the company hosts events and outings, fostering a positive environs given the stressful nature of the work. The new office is in a prime location with panoramic views. Those who work hard (and... smart) are given the opportunity to excel and develop their careers, many have improved their livelihood over the years.

    Cons

Those who expect to be paid for the sake of showing up need not apply.; hard work is expected in every department of the firm, this is not a 9 to 5.

    Advice to Management

The firm is only as strong as the weakest link, collectively all employees ought to make an effort for the greater good. While it is disappointing to learn about disgruntled employees, we wish them the best in their future endeavors. Perhaps this individual will find suitable employment elsewhere. Frankly I am surprised to see former employees who attempt to disguise themselves as they write reviews on this site.... My advice is to improve the vetting process when hiring and take care of those loyal individuals who continue to work tirelessly to make Advent a great place to work.

    Pros

None None None None Good Location Maybe Great Location. On rare occasions you will find a nice person to call a friend

    Cons

Implicit bias — 1950s management approach; limited advancement for certain groups; HIGH HIGH employee turnover. A broke clock is “right two times a day” describes the ‘success’ of the firm with precision. Advent is like working for the current administration: lots of un-necessary drama and unqualified people in high positions. Ask questions accepting a position.

    Advice to Management

Stop acting as if the 1950s have not passed; more racial, ethnic and gender diversity in all areas of the business is needed; the benefits are subpar—new hires must work 6 months before PTO kicks in.

I have been working at Advent Asset Management full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nice location, however, the top dollar location is subsidized by the employees. At bonus time, employees are reminded how expensive the office location is and “there is no money, in addition, the pool is down.” The same approach is used towards members in the UK office.

    Cons

The CIO goes MIA for weeks at a time and senior management is afraid to acknowledge both that he is out of the office in addition to his whereabouts. Serious disconnect between the corner office and the nuts and bolts of the operations.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees and your fiduciary responsibilities.

    Pros

Advent is a global organization managing over nine billion dollars of assets and the infrastructure to support more. Our assets have tripled since the financial crisis. The firm continues to grow organically and by attracting new investors. Additionally, we are creating to new product lines in an effort to bolster out year over year growth in AUM. These endeavors are the result of vision, hard work (smart work), and... positive energy of the many employees here collectively pushing to achieve this goal. It is unfortunate that disgruntled individuals with nothing better to do in their spare time exert such effort in an attempt to defame this firm with acrid comments. The former associates who wasted so much time to write reviews were given an opportunity to work for a world class firm. They were hired with base salaries greater than they had ever made before -terminated for well documented performance issues. This unproductive behavior illustrates why these individuals are still unemployed. Perhaps in the future, writers looking for readership will find a positive topic instead of posting malicious comments on the internet to express their frustrations. Poorly written essays from displeased millennials are viewed as pathetic attempts to hurt former colleagues. One would think that they would cease and desist, get on with their respective lives... maybe they have too much free time on their hands.

    Cons

Advent is a challenging environment to work in. All departments are result orientated. Those with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the desire to succeed make it. Not the place to surf the web or GChat all day.

    Advice to Management

Others have articulated the need for a more stringent vetting process when hiring employees, I agree. Summer Friday policy and food options are greatly appreciated. Disgruntled employees ought to be addressed sooner. Employees that go above and beyond the call of duty ought to be compensated accordingly.

Solid group of investment professionals with varied backgrounds, strong work ethic. Most employees here are enthusiastic and dedicated -all work long hours. Career and compensation opportunity for those who roll up their sleeves and put forth effort: admin,

    Cons

Management can be blunt at times. High stress work environment, strong personalities -nothing out of the ordinary from most firms on Wall Street.

Generally good people work there, not political, flat management structure , nice office location
