    Pros

Small company atmosphere. Largely independent working environment. Good people at working level.

    Cons

High turn over rate. No clear direction moving forward. Untrustworthy management. No career advancement opportunities. Poor work culture. Middle of the pack benefits. Slow to react. Future business opportunities scarce.

    Advice to Management

Invest in employees, make career paths for employees, improve benefits package, cut dead weight in middle and upper management.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Advics North America (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can put in a solid 35 hour week while home and nobody will care. Minimal responsibility and lots of Holiday Inn and Delta points available.

    Cons

Too much travel (over 120 days). Communication is poor. Senior management have all been promoted beyond their capabilities and are too focused on protecting their position, by withholding information from lower levels of management and staff. People are promoted based more on the buddy system than on actual merit. Ambitious staff end up doing just enough to not get disciplined, and have no motivation to do more than is minimally required. Staff recommendations to management do not get acted upon. No investment from Japan to allow NA business to grow. No career path for young engineers.

    Advice to Management

Fire all Americans in Plymouth with the title senior manager or higher and start over. They are holding you back.

    Pros

The company is growing and it has good pay and benefits.

    Cons

No company culture. There are no events to help build teams and everyone in the office doesn't seem excited at all about what they are doing.

    Pros

paid to do nothing, if you like that. constantly changing priorities and direction make it interesting.

    Cons

Mostly a two-tier system (see other reviews).Either long-time old management with no accountability and great pay, or high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Do you really want to be a legitimate company, or just a shell company for Toyota?

    Pros

The money. Good benefits and insurance.

    Cons

They were rude. While your busy doing your job they make you do unnecessary things, fire pregnant women. They draft you at last minute.

    Advice to Management

Not be rude. Supervisors need better people skills. Hire people that actually work, not actually work and goof off and don't make their numbers.

I worked at Advics North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - If you are unambitious, you can skate by without doing much of anything. In fact the worst thing you can do is fight for your programs.
    - Decent Benefits, pay isn't bad.
    - Flex Time

    Cons

    - Japanese and American employees are not considered equals.
    - Japanese do not acknowledge NA employees, emails, phone calls or respond to NA customer demands, usually putting you in a position where you can't succeed.
    - If you have a strong work ethic this place will kill it, because nothing you do ultimately matters
    - Very High Turnover Rate.
    - Constant late night/early morning phone conferences with Japan to go over the same exact subjects.
    - Inability of ADVICS Japan to understand why the big 3 consider passing tests important for new brake products.
    - Zero upward mobility.
    - Refusal to honor terms of offer letter regarding final paycheck and bonuses.

    Advice to Management

You need to obtain buy in from your rank and file Japanese employees if you want to enter the NA OEM market. You can't just negotiate your way out of testing or modifying specifications as you see fit and expect to do well here.

"Not a bad place to work if you are not ambitious"

I have been working at Advics North America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, not too much traffic around.
    Easy and slow work environment.

    Cons

Boring. No penalty on making mistakes - both big and small.
No career opportunities because people in management are not going anywhere.
High turnover in staff level and young managers.

    Advice to Management

Senior management is the only group who are benefiting from the company. No real responsibility due to all decisions made by its parent company in Japan, still act as the big bosses. Young managers and ambitious staff keep leaving due to no career development opportunities, which leaves people with no other choice to have more transitions than necessary.

I worked at Advics North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of very talented people working there.

    Cons

The North American branch still takes it's orders from Japan, which can lead to frustrating limitations. There are also a lot of employees that get away with coasting by with minimal work, knowing that they won't be fired because: 1) turn over is so high it would be hard to justify firing an employee, and 2) Japanese culture isn't big on firing employees. This can be frustrating for anybody that ends up picking up the slack.

    Advice to Management

Find talented people and retain them. The Japanese employment mentality is not going to work in the US. Secure more autonomy for ADVICS North America.
