I have been working at Advisory Board full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The culture is incredible. Peers are highly motivated and intelligent. Great place to begin a career.

    Cons

Entry level positions can feel stagnant at some points, always a lot of change.

I worked at Advisory Board as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They let you take ownership of different tasks and projects. They also let you cater the internship to what you were looking to learn. The team was filled with a great group of people! They also had flexibility of movement between teams if you wanted to try a different role.

    Cons

Although it is considered a consulting firm, it does not have all of the 'perks' of a consulting firm.

I worked at Advisory Board full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

People, culture, experiences beyond your years. There is a true investment in growing staff and giving them new, challenging experiences.

    Cons

Work life balance in the Consulting business does not exist, this is not true of all divisions. At times there is a missing aspect of transparency (although this is improving)

    Advice to Management

Time for a large turnover at the senior levels with the upcoming change in control (company has had numerous rough quarters and not one exec with stock options has been let go or seen major change in responsibility)

I have been working at Advisory Board full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of health care data makes you realize why hospitals need us more than ever such as for reducing care variation or optimizing revenue and cost. Data First philosophy is big push to build enterprise analytics.

    Cons

RAPID needs to be quicker. Sometimes it takes long to make decisions with a clear D (decision maker).

    Advice to Management

Faster decision making. Also PMs need to build clear roadmap for long term goals.

I worked at Advisory Board full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Young people, lots of stretch opportunities, availability to get promoted within a year, move departments, there is a lot of great work life balance and incentives.

    Cons

Too many young people, not a very professional environment, the retention rate is pretty low with marketing associates as you are cold calling all day.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to train their managers better as some just get promoted based on tenure, not management skill. Marketing Associates should be compensated more as their retention rate is very low. Try not to switch managers every 6 months.
