I worked at Advocate Health Care full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Management was extremely supportive of both personal and professional growth.
I appreciated the ability to seek growth in different areas, going from utilization management to care management.

    Cons

One of the challenges was the constantly changing atmosphere in healthcare and the company's response.
This often required learning new systems and reorganizing priorities.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be as accessible, supportive as you've been!
This is my most recent job. I only left because I relocated out of state.

I have been working at Advocate Health Care full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is solid, a lot to learn . Strong health care system

    Cons

give blood, sweat and tears over 10 years of employment, applied for many jobs, declined, jobs given to the "younger" inexperienced people that aren't qualified and you get an email saying the "the position requistion has been closed" question it and you are told the position is closed, a week later they announce the promotion of the employee into that position-how can you fight it, you can't it will be a mark on your back, you will eventually end up out the door, because you are now a difficult employee. These younger people play on the cell phones or talk on personal calls all day, go out for walks, talk to everyone around the office, extended lunches with no repercussions-but get promoted. makes a very unhappy, hostile environment and co-workers don't want to help the fellow co-worker with the work load they are behind on.

    Advice to Management

promote "seasoned" employees, their age is the least of your concern, the commitment put into the job, being there on time for one, not calling in another and the amount of knowledge they carry. PAY ATTENTION, GIVE OPPORTUNITIES WHERE ITS DUE.

I worked at Advocate Health Care full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits and vacation time are competitive. The hospital I worked at was beautiful and they were always improving their services.

    Cons

The healthcare environment is challenging with large hospital systems merging into big conglomerates. Company is consolidating the human resources department into a shared services environment.

I have been working at Advocate Health Care (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great working environment. Office is close to my house and close to highways. Casual environment at support centers.

    Cons

PTO sucks for full time hourly employees. Forced to use PTO time for holidays and already in a deficit when accrual is 6.15 hours and you need to use 8 hours for holidays. Advocate should be paying associates for holidays instead of using PTO time or give hourly associates 8 hours per pay period.

    Advice to Management

PTO really really needs to be reformed to keep good personnel.

I have been working at Advocate Health Care full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Thousands of dedicated and compassionate people work at Advocate. Clinical care is outstanding. The culture is hit and miss by division and location. The pay is above average and benefits pretty standard for healthcare.

    Cons

There are some serious jerks in the executive leadership ranks. They create havoc for those who must serve them.

    Advice to Management

Hold system and site leaders accountable for their poor leadership and behavior.

    Pros

Coworkers are great. Helping patients receive better health care is a common theme among staff.

    Cons

Upper management are passive/aggressive. The only goal is their goal - no matter what. Lack of ethics and morals abound.

    Advice to Management

Grow a pair and do what's ethically and morally right for the patient. Support your employees. Realize that employees are people, not just a commodity to use to get the boxes you want checked.
