I worked at Aeroflex full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The management was approachable and fair. Work was always challenging and satisfying. Pay was on par with industry expectations. Best part was company culture. It was like having another family. Truly.

    Cons

Small company meant wearing a lot of hats, meeting deadlines on projects, etc. IT department was slow in upgrading the engineers computers and lab equipment, equipment and license budgets were a bit stingy.

    Advice to Management

Good job overall. More money for R&D for engineering.

    Pros

There have been a lot of changes since Cobham bought us, mostly improvements. People are being empowered and are finally able to change or at least improve some of the backward practices. Lots of nice people here (unfortunately most are below average in their fields).

    Cons

No corporate or site strategy has been communicated - focus is on this qtr revenue. Almost every group is understaffed. Several of the groups have unqualified managers (they don't know how the function is performed in the semiconductor industry. Compensation is about 20% below market rates for most engineering position. There is no bonus plan for engineers, no ESPP, no stock options or RSUs.

    Advice to Management

To succeed we need to be focused on a small number of product families where we can be a market leader. Your people are your greatest asset - treat the key individuals like the experts they are and compensate them accordingly, not at 40th or 50th percentile.

    Pros

Great people, in the old groups, weak non personable people being brought in as fillers.
    Contracts in the works, great!!
Old equipment, average age 30+ years, and no people with the experience to keep it all running.
Lots of "good ole' boys" in this network. Heavy politics internally

    Cons

Great people to work with, but since Cobham took over from Aeroflex, the typical English method of doing things has basically set the company up to fail! The restructuring, constant meetrings, poorly set up web for training personnel. Moving out older experienced people to put in non experienced "college types" with brains and zero common sense.
Burning money like there's no tomorrow at 1 plant here, while shorting budgeting and selling off assets at the other. smells like failure, looks like failure so therefor must be failure or close to it.
No longer a good place to work unless you are desperate and don't mind being browbeaten.

    Advice to Management

Time to look around and pay attention to details, not always the profit margin.ypu need to get back some of the experienced people you let go over the past 2 years.Especially the engineering side.

I have been working at Aeroflex full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good location, mostly great co-workers. Affords me the opportunity to pay the bills kind of on time.

    Cons

Little to no sales support makes it hard to acquire new customers and sell new products to existing customers. The Cobham integration has not been a positive experience. Two rounds of layoffs with no reduction in overall work load. The remaining employees are supposed to pick up the slack, which makes it pretty impossible to actually get anything done. The team environment is gone.

    Advice to Management

I don't even know where to start. There are so many things wrong I cannot nail down one suggestion.
