I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked from home. Loved the Members. Provided Case management for Members of World Bank, IMF, PAHO, PDVSA, SACM. Enjoyed working with Members of varied global affiliations.

    Cons

Mid level management focused on personal bonuses. Used to be a company that appreciated experience in their employees. Focus shifted to bottom line once Bertolini assumed CEO position. Autonomy and work life balance disintegrated. Not Member focused. Company concerts efforts to force older employees out.

    Advice to Management

You too will age. No one is valued. All are considered expendable.

Work from home, easy to make and keep family obligations (taking kids to school and picking them up)

    Cons

strict deadlines, large workload. Not interested in nursing opinion. Want to do the cost effective option....always. Not a patient centered company.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the nurses, they have expertise and judgement that is essential to understanding what is needed for the patient.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Starting salary mid 70s. Desk job.

    Cons

You are an information gathering statistician assistant first, case manager second. Role of job: collect all possible information from people you call then spends a few minutes addressing any actual needs. Work at home is no longer a feature available as it once was unless grandfathered in. The more efficient you are the higher tasks you receive. Workload, expected productivity and performance necessary with the job are disconnected from reality. Productivity and engagement are heavily focused on--- if people don't engaged you figure out a way to make them, this is an expectation. Many cut corners to leave on time. Weekends off are no longer guaranteed as Saturdays are becoming an interest for days to work. The higher your salary the more you pay for insurance premiums. In summary-- your position longevity is dictated by your ability to justify the need for your employment.

    Advice to Management

    None, don't listen anyway.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Work at home. Yearly bonus.

    Cons

Pay increases are getting lower for those of us not in management. Cannot advance into management positions unless you are buddies with management. Lateral transfers are on hold for most nursing positions, however some nurses are able get a lateral transfer 'under the radar' for positions that are not posted. Need to follow workflows that were developed by a management team that obviously has not performed this role - expectations are demanding and we are told that we are salaried so you need to stay and finish your work. We are told this by our supervisors that clock in their 8 hours and go home. Policies and procedures are not consistent throughout the company. Employees are forced to drive 60 minutes each direction to do in home visits. Management mistakenly admitted during a meeting that the application that is used to determine drive times is inaccurate, so a 60 minute drive time actually takes over 70 minutes. Workload has not been decreased to reflect the extra time out of the office. I'm just being honest and have examples for a lot of these comments, so please don't think I am a disgruntled employee. Just being truthful.
