I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Steady employment for many years. Great culture. Excellent managers. Competitive pay and benefits, particularly the dollar for dollar (up to 6% of salary) matching 401k program.

    Cons

Salary increases could be low and slow unless employee wants to, and is fortunate enough to keep being promoted.

    Advice to Management

Share more bonuses and stock options with the rank and file. Senior execs are already very highly compensated and receive large amounts of options. This was done years ago, when Aetna was struggling and Ron Williams was CEO.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I started with Aetna 10 years ago after losing my job in construction. So the first pro is they gave me the opportunity to work for them with no obvious experience in the health care industry. I worked through customer service on the phones and then applied to claims processing and am now an analyst. The 2nd pro would be the freedom to transfer to other areas of the business, assuming you possess some aptitude for the job you are applying for. The pay has always been decent and you get all of the standard benefits like 401k, dental, eye and health.

    Cons

Oddly enough working for a health insurance company doesn't mean the best health insurance prices. Lol, so don't be surprised when you find out your insurance isn't free. Although, there are many health programs you can enroll in to get credits toward your premiums. There seems to be a high turnover rate for management so you are often exposed to a couple different management styles even within a year. My current position has me working on a pretty complex processing program and I often feel a lack of support (it doesn't help that I have been through 12 managers within a 2 year period).
I have to say, I'm not to excited about the exclusive employee engagement groups. Sure, you can join in with them but you are kind of excluded when you don't line up with the cultures or creeds of the of the groups that are available in that you don't fit in.

    Advice to Management

Hey managers! Stick around a while! Your employees miss you and when you take off to a different company it throws everything into chaos for them!
