    Pros

Wonderful people who have in depth knowledge of the issues facing healthcare today. Good salary and benefits and beautiful corporate headquarters.

    Cons

Management that is only concerned about the next analyst call.
Hiring and promotion bias towards early in career and lower salary individuals - experience not valued

    Advice to Management

Follow your own talking points and do the right thing for the right reason. Find senior leaders who have integrity and treat people with respect.

I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Frequent bonuses and salary increased rapidly.

    Cons

Supervisors were often not in the same city as their staff and so undeserving employees were occasionally presented awards that included money.

    Advice to Management

Verify KPM on all of your employees before nominating one for an award.

I have been working at Aetna full-time

    Pros

Salaries are competitive. Bonus plan is better than most. If eligible for stock options, shares issued are generous.

    Cons

Like any large organization, getting resources to complete work can be challenging. There is much confusion about where the company is going regarding accountable care, consumer services and traditional plan sponsors. The rejection of the Humana Acquisition creates more uncertainty about the future.

    Advice to Management

Mark Bertolini does a great job communicating quarterly with town halls. Below him, such meetings are more spotty. Lack of communication transparency seems to be the norm, leaving employees in the dark. The CEO's example needs to be pushed all the way down,

I received excellent training and acquired much industry knowledge at Aetna. There are great opportunities for advancement if you apply yourself. The company does a great job with diversity.

    Cons

There can be some nepotism and favoritism shown in certain departments. The company has become more focused on the business aspect of healthcare but this is true of the industry as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Need to tweak some of the benefits especially the PTO policy.
