I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to work for millenials looking for a stepping stone.

    Cons

No insurance innovation. Nothing new since Aetna Health Fund under Ron Williams. No thought leaders like Russ Fisher or Ron Williams.

    Advice to Management

Get back to basics. Create a new product. Rebuild National Accounts. Forget mergers and acquisitions-you don't know how to integrate systems.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary is good. Work from home. Our nurses really care about our members and give all we have to make sure our members have what they need within their benefits. Lower level managers are great.

    Cons

Telemarketing to beg member's to use their benefits. CM are held accountable (do not get raise or bonuses), even when member's do not answer the phone or return calls. Auditors are subjective (which also affects your raises and bonuses). If they like you and want you to advance, you get good audits. It they want you gone, you get bad audits. Promotions are no based on merit. Productivity is not based on what we actually do, we are expected to have the same productivity on a day with 3 hours of mandatory meetings that we do on regular days -forcing overtime. Staff are educated than management.

    Advice to Management

They do not take advice because they see nothing the matter with what they do. I wish, just once, an upper management person for ask for my opinion on how to improve some workflows. End line staff need to be more involved in workflow development. Explain rationale for necessary changes and plan the changes with the involved staff.

I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

With the exception of the somewhat costly health benefits, the other benefits -- especially related to health and wellness, as well as financial health -- are outstanding. Also, the pressure/long hours varies by department.

    Cons

Most management expects long hours. The idea of "PTO, or Paid Time Off" is a bit of a joke, as employees generally check e-mails and work during days off.

    Advice to Management

Most of what you're doing is awesome. But please consider work/life balance and how important that is to the health and well-being of your employees. Focus on quality, not quantity. Discourage multi-tasking.
