I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule and the ability to work from home.

    Cons

Too many company layoffs, slow promotions, excessive favoritism and the management values numbers MUCH more than people (death in the family)we don't care (sick family member)so what ( you only have a month to live)boo hoo! UNLESS the life event happens to another member of the management-THEN collection, flowers and cards go out.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees how you want to be treated, or how you would want someone to treat someone you love. Help develop the talent in your own areas instead of seeking outside promotions.

I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    The company provides good benefits.

    Cons

This is a very difficult organization. There is frequent change, not change management, but more chaotic. Communications are not good between direct supervision, middle management, and executive level.

    Advice to Management

Develop a course of action and remain with it for more than a few months. Better communications and willingness to respect each level of management.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The schedule you're given is good if there is direction from your manager. The product and services we provide to our members is easy to learn.

    Cons

In the Medicare world you only get ahead based off of who you know. Your success is based off of your peers or how your manager likes you. You can work hard and give your all but as a Supervisor you are placed last on the list of people to care about. You should not have a personal life.

    Advice to Management

Care about Supervisors. You always have Manager meetings and work groups with CSR's but never have anything for the supervisors. We give everyone a yearly rating and in other segments (NOT Medicare) when individuals post for another job that's not even looked at. I have been rated 4's and 5's (highest numbers) but because my direct manager doesn't care for me the hiring manager looks at that. This is where we should challenge management because if I was so bad of a person and they are telling you negative things, why would that not be in my yearly scorecard. Because our Medicare world is so small, if your manager doesn't care for you then you will never move around.

When people apply for jobs make it bad for them to reach out to the managers. WE have VERY vindictive management here and it's only getting worse. When will we look at that. Stop trusting the word of a manager because of their title cause just like us they are people too.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Aetna has been a great place to work. Wonderful colleagues and the work at home was a huge plus, really helps with work/life balance.

    Cons

Many depts taken over by merging companies with extreme management styles along with an arbitrary decision to force teleworkers back to the offices. Problem is there is no room because they got rid of real estate when they created telework years ago, now people are crammed together and its gross.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at depts where people are leaving in droves, there is a reason. The Aetna way philosophy is rapidly disappearing unfortunately.

I have been working at Aetna full-time

    Pros

Great benefits and decent chances to promote

    Cons

conflicting leadership styles, inability to provide proper tutelage for employees, and inconsistent communication between the manager (and director) level and the frontline staff.

    Advice to Management

Try exploring out more employees to fill your manager and director roles instead of placing them. When you have multiple (aka favorites) rewarded for simply following orders, even though they are the ones creating the problems, turn to those that know how to run the floor with precision, support front frontline staff, and dominate the metrics set in place.
