I worked at Affiliated Computer Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Somewhat flexible hours as long as you are a high performer.

    Cons

The goals are mostly unrealistic, unless you are in good with management you get treated kind of badly. You can get constantly berated by customers and store associates you talk to, you can't say anything back and must be completely polite to them the entire time. If you say anything or disconnect the call after warning, you get written up. I have heard one individual get called various racist names (she was Russian), and she tried getting management to deal with it. They gave the customer credits to her account although she hadn't made a single payment in 6 months.

    Advice to Management

Deal with situations properly, treat employees better. Give raises to people who deserve it. People at 10 years experience shouldn't cap out at a flat $10.00.

    Pros

Always work, good people, great environment in Dallas and Austin area. New projects always coming through with RFPs and incoming projects coming in.

    Cons

Constant reorgs, low same salaries, do more with less. They don't think twice about letting people with good domain knowledge go, regardless of impacts to business. Bottom line is bottom line no matter how they get there.

    Advice to Management

Consider domain and experience of people, keep your most valuable assets happy, and although loyalty is hard to come by nowadays, at least you can extend that as long as it's beneficial to both parties.

    Pros

Thankful for job and a paycheck, and being able to get a paycheck every two weeks

    Cons

shift bids are not always fair to employee, does not make sense to chose a shift when they give you what they want to give

    Pros

Good benefits. Good government business ties.

    Cons

Combining of Xerox and ACS is causing people to lose their jobs over duplicate positions. Upper managements' bonus pool tends to cloud their decisions they make for the employees.

    Advice to Management

Understand the customer's positions over the revenue push from Xerox which contradicts man of the customer's wants. It puts the ACS in a very difficult position since it differs from the customer's needs.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Affiliated Computer Services full-time

    Pros

-Working from home is a wonderful option. It aids with work/life balance.
-Many good people to work with at local level.
-I know if I can make the client happy, my job's probably a little more secure.
-The work atmosphere today is better than it was 2-3 years ago.
    -Paved parking lot.

    Cons

-Constant worry about furlough, paycuts or layoffs.
-Upper management more concerned about sending as many jobs as possible away from USA and into cheapest countries.
-Outsourcing our IT/Development to Cognizant has been disastrous.
-Constant audits and rigid structure make it impossible to get anything done quickly for the client. You want to change a report? It'll take two months and require approval from about 12 different "teams."
-No room, incentive or encouragement for innovation. Everything is so rigid, where's the innovation?
-When Xerox bought ACS, all the midlevel employees took paycuts. Then ACS CEO collected a fat bonus for making the merge possible. Think about that. Cutting everyone's pay so the CEO can get a bigger bonus.
-Many good employees have quit over the years due to low pay and dumb upper management decisions.
-Security team acts like we're hiding CIA secrets. Settle down.
-Benefits get worse every year and yet more expensive every year.
-HR issue? Good luck finding a live person to talk to.

    Advice to Management

Lynn Blodgett's retirement is a good start. If Ursula, Tom and Mark stepped down, there'd be real hope for the future.

    Pros

    Great culture and friendly people

    Cons

Was bounced around from department to department due to work flow slowdown towards the end of my time with this company to the point that I was placed in an area that was completely unsuitable to my skill-set. There was very little training in this area and when I failed at it, all of my previous hard work for the company was ignored and I became the low end of the totem pole.

I have been working at Affiliated Computer Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Co-workers and managers are excellent
Managers allow and expect autonomy in managing your desk
Flexibility in work hours if needed

    Cons

Constant fear of Reduction in Force
    Promised pay raises never occur
    Benefits are sub-standard
Topology is siloed - each team is so understaffed that they cannot afford the time to help anyone outside of their team / tower.
Upper Management take huge bonuses but pass the cuts on to the engineers at the bottom

    Advice to Management

Lead by example - if the quarter is bad, don't take huge bonuses.
Revamp the topology once - Stop making adjustments to the teams and towers each month. It makes it very hard to know who to work with. If the topology needs revamping, do it in a fell swoop.
Stop dangling the carrot - Employees know that each year the 'raises and benefits improvements' speech is worth less than the hot air it was spoken with, especially when it is almost always followed in the next week/month/quarter with cost reductions and RIFs.
