I worked at Affiliated Computer Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I gained very valuable business experience working at ACS that has helped me in my career more than any other company I have worked for. You are given unrealistic deadlines, strecthed resources, and contentious clients. Its a huge challenge but you learn how to navigate obstacles quickly and how to survive in a fast paced environment. Some of the professional connections I met her have become treasured friends.... Opportunities for advancement are to be had but you likely won't receive a salary increase with them.

I worked at Affiliated Computer Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Will hire just about anyone to fill the headcount. This includes rehiring people that were fired for misconduct just a few months ago. Promotions can happen quickly and easily due to the fact that hardly anyone stays more than 12 months.

    Cons

The worst employer I've had outside of the one where the owner was actively abusive due to alcoholism and mental illness. There is zero concern for the employees, or maintaining a work-life balance. Schedules were changed from M-F 9-5 to M, W-F, S overnight, or the other way around. Nepotism and favoritism is rampant. Never been so glad to leave an employer.

"Just Unprofessional. I wish would be able to write a more write a favorable review but honesty is the best policy"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Customer Service Representative in Cary, NC

I have been working at Affiliated Computer Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pros are that the hiring process is extremely easy, you can literally walk into the building on an open house session and be given a job, as long as you don't have any major felonies.

    Cons

The pay is not competitive at all compared to what other call centers are paying, and there is no direction between the host company and the Xerox when giving out orders. Good people are doing a lot of hard work for low compensations and it creates a stressful environment for everybody. The work life balance is not good at all, to the company you mean nothing if you are not on the phone and your schedule will be... switched without further notice.

    Advice to Management

Treat your workers better overall and they will work harder, morale means so much to a workplace and there isn't much of it at ACS

I worked at Affiliated Computer Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

This company lacks resources so if you are willing to put yourself out there and volunteer, you will learn a lot. People are willing to teach you about their position, and how the system works. There are opportunities to grow professionally through teamwork.

    Cons

Sales and upper management make promises to clients that are not realistic. Every department is understaffed and the computer systems are 3+ years in the past. You will learn to be creative in order to by-pass deadlines or over-ride the system to get work done. With the load of work to be done, there is no work-life balance. You will work 40+ hours (closer to 60). There are promotions to be had as supervisors... and managers move on, but somehow they are always a lateral move with no pay raise included.

    Pros

-Working from home is a wonderful option. It aids with work/life balance. -Many good people to work with at local level. -I know if I can make the client happy, my job's probably a little more secure. -The work atmosphere today is better than it was 2-3 years ago. -Paved parking lot.

    Cons

-Constant worry about furlough, paycuts or layoffs. -Upper management more concerned about sending as many jobs as possible away from USA and into cheapest countries. -Outsourcing our IT/Development to Cognizant has been disastrous. -Constant audits and rigid structure make it impossible to get anything done quickly for the client. You want to change a report? It'll take two months and require approval from about... 12 different "teams." -No room, incentive or encouragement for innovation. Everything is so rigid, where's the innovation? -When Xerox bought ACS, all the midlevel employees took paycuts. Then ACS CEO collected a fat bonus for making the merge possible. Think about that. Cutting everyone's pay so the CEO can get a bigger bonus. -Many good employees have quit over the years due to low pay and dumb upper management decisions. -Security team acts like we're hiding CIA secrets. Settle down. -Benefits get worse every year and yet more expensive every year. -HR issue? Good luck finding a live person to talk to.

    Advice to Management

Lynn Blodgett's retirement is a good start. If Ursula, Tom and Mark stepped down, there'd be real hope for the future.

    Pros

Work/Life balance, flexible schedule and work from home only

    Cons

No salary increases, paid on minimum range of market, just focus on Bottom line, management only caring about their bonuses, very unprofessional way from management to communicate with employees, a lot of wasted resources due to lack almost non existent HR presence and practices, HR is basically there to make sure the company does not get in any legal problems but could care less if the employees left as long as the... company can pay nothing for the time being served by the employee and there is no legal problem, basically you are another number or once exiting being treat like a dog, in order to get to career path or to other positions the buddy system is the only way to get there, you need to by pally to management or be cheap, but good things comes with a price tag and management simply look the other way.

    Advice to Management

Remove current management structure if XBS wants to be world-class company, all support personnel functions specially on site management needs to be look with magnifier and very likely removed, they are there because they either are cheap, they have been there for thousands years and they are next online or typically pally with upper management, look for the right people and the right profile and avoid look at... resources current titles and CVs as some of them are modified to suit needs and to be attractive to the system when there is no survey at what the people and society think about these "managers", they have the titles are because of the reasons above but if you look at their appearance outside the facilities they haven't contribute to anything and they simply cannot represent the brand nor sell our company, interview from top to bottom with professional recruiters as recruiters are also contaminated with the same old way to doing thing and biasing to pally buddy-buddy system.

    Pros

The good news is there is decent work/life balance. You can take time off if needed. Flex time. Work from home / remotely for many positions. Pay is good. Decent opportunities for advancement / transfers if you're willing to relocate (not every position is remote-able). A lot of good line employees who really care about the place and the customers.

    Cons

Senior management is completely clueless on how to run a business, and nor do they want to. Primary interest is on cost cutting in order to achieve quarterly numbers & bonus. Customer satisfaction is put dead last, as is employee satisfaction. Bonuses and manipulating the numbers for shareholders is priority #1. Many employees have not had raises in 5+ years. Benefits are mediocre at best (health insurance is high... deductible with no option to increase coverage at your own expense). Technology is obsolete with horrible tech support. Most systems are extremely slow or not working at all. Tons of senior management but less and less line employees every day. Half the staff have VP or director in their title. Layoffs, off shoring, and furloughs are continual. Low to non-existent employee morale. Completely disorganized management and departmental structures.

    Advice to Management

Cut 3-4 levels of management out. Get management who knows about the business. This isn't a product company anymore. Start rewarding employees.
