I have been working at Affinity Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Paid fairly for the work you do
    - Privately owned company
    - 401k matching
    - Generous vacation time

    Cons

    - Lots of ups and downs in the business
    - I have seen several years of Q4 layoffs
    - VP's are territorial and not cohesive

    Advice to Management

    - Get the executives to change the culture or get new executives
    - Treat your employees like family, instead of treating them like a number that can be let go to improve annual earnings for a private company.

I worked at Affinity Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are no pros working for this group

    Cons

BEWARE! The most toxic environment you can imagine. Picture The Office or Office Space but not at all funny. You will be lied to about being "part of the family" and "work life balance". Instead you will work 60+ hours on call 7 days a week working for a group of oppressive tyrants. The company itself is not an issue, but the management group in Englewood Colorado is a group of horrible people out to make your life miserable for their own gain. Overall Good Sam is a good company to work for, but beware of what group you're joining.

    Advice to Management

None. The current management team can't be helped.

    Pros

Loved working here when I had the right management.

    Cons

They gave me a new boss who wanted more worthless units sold, instead of looking at actual revenue generated.

    Advice to Management

Don't mess with a system that is functioning correctly, and screen your management choices better.

I worked at Affinity Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company provides volunteer hours to give back to the community. This is now pretty common but still worth giving them credit for.
Pay is good in certain departments but comes with a huge price that drains your soul.
Most jobs in the Camping World retail and customer service pay $9 to $12 an hour which is fine for young people but many are 30+ years old with kids to support.

    Cons

Very much a spam organization. Members are called and mailed constantly. CEO and President run the show from a distance. It matters very little what senior management thinks or wants to do. It only matters if they don't want to do something asked of them, because then they are quickly replaced. Many people have left the company for lower paying jobs due to the lack of confidence in CEO and having to endure decisions that made no business sense and cost the company money and made the work environment miserable.

    Advice to Management

CEO- Glass Door shows a 15% approval rating with your employees! You are more interested in starting up reality shows than learning from your employees that have good honest feedback. You are a bully (do what I say or get out) and a one man show and I don't respect the lack of leadership and lack of value you have for good people who are working in fear of you.

    Pros

Local management team great to work with and understanding. Workload was not oppressive - you could have a life too. Great location.

    Cons

Top management change resulted in persistent adjustments and an atmosphere of fear for the employees. Uncertainty makes an uncomfortable work environment.

    Advice to Management

People know that changes are being made. Share your plans with them and let them prepare their lives, their futures. They will thank you every day.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits though benefits used to be better.

    Cons

Management for years has failed to get rid of dead weight within management leaving employees sometimes feeling bullied or like dirt. Good or bad you have to do something really bad to get fired.

    Advice to Management

Take a good look at middle management and listen when there is a problem.

    Pros

About the only good thing I can really say about working at Affinity is that if you show up for work most days and do not constantly mess up you are likely to keep your job.

    Cons

Department is run like a dictatorship; it is incredible that one person can think she is the only one that can make any decision at all.
Every 3rd person in the department is a manager, but managers are nothing more than minions for the department head.
If you do not worship the department head, you have absolutely zero chance for advancement.
The scary thing is this is not the only department in the company that is run like that.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are capable of doing a great job. Quit oppressing them.

I worked at Affinity Group full-time

    Pros

The pay is fair. The better you are at your job, the more you get paid. The environment is very relaxed.

    Cons

The management style is very top-down. All decisions come from above with very little interaction from people below them. The organization is pretty small so there is little opportunity for advancement. They do not believe in annual raises either.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. They sometimes have great ideas that could really benefit the company especially in the jobs that they do on a daily basis.
