I have been working at Aflac full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Freedom to be your own boss, trips, bonuses, renewable income (instead of one time commission), career instead of just a job. FORTUNE 500 and a World's most Ethical Company. Great training (at least here in Wyoming) and a family mentality. Great family/work balance.

    Cons

No base pay, can be a slow start at first, you have to be very organized and self-driven, have to be licensed in life and health to sell insurance (but my management help with the process).

    Advice to Management

Don't loose focus on your clients, while trying to grow. Opening new accounts is wonderful, but not at the loss of your current customers. Balance is possible. Also, reward great customer service along with great sales.

I have been working at Aflac full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company pays good commission when you do get paid. It's definitely good for someone looking for a long term career.

    Cons

Tough start - it is commission only so there will be months in the beginning where you might make no money at all.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to make sure they help new associates so they don't go months without a paycheck.

I have been working at Aflac as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Make your own hours and push your self you can make great money. People you work with and for are awesome and will help you any way they can.

    Cons

cold calling and finding your own leads. Training needs to be better to have you ready to answer questions on the fly in the business you are selling.

    Advice to Management

Provide more training one on one with the agents. Provide benefits from AFLAC at a reduced rate.

I have been working at Aflac as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great career if you have the help. Unfortunately, help is few and far between. Need to know someone to b successful.

    Cons

Lack of help to be successful. The "politics" are not so great. Especially in ME/NH/VT!!!

    Advice to Management

Take the time to really help the struggling. You lack the ability to guide people.

I have been working at Aflac full-time

    Pros

It is at least some good resume experience for those who are looking to enter into a sales career.

    Cons

Supplemental benefits are a hard sell. The amount of time and work one can put in and not see a return is demoralizing.

    Advice to Management

There is not much management can do to change anything. They are numbers driven and when one employee in a management position is not producing quota they pick the next best guy and it is a viscous cycle.

I have been working at Aflac as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Self Employeed Independant Contractor. YOU and only YOU are responsible for your performance. It is performance pay and that is only for those who are prepared for being an entrepreneur. I have over 10 years with the company and have mentored and trained many successful agents. I have also been mentored and trained by other successful agents/coordinators. The financial long term reward is worth the work of someone is willing to go to work and ask for help when it's needed. Aflac has provided more for my family than any other 9-5 hourly paid job ever would. The products we offer and solutions to companies and individuals are superior to any other company. There are other companies that are similar and pay similar. However, would you go to McDonalds for a steak? We are the best at what we do!

    Cons

It is not a one size fits all career. Since it is performances based, of you can't get off your butt and go to work, it is not the career for you. Recruiting will always be an issue, however someone did recruit me and I did not come from a sales background. Unfortunately, we do give the opportunity to too many people and that can impact our market.

    Advice to Management

As I am currently a manager "coordinator" we are fully aware that mass in numbers is not always the solution. However, we are always willing to take a risk on someone and often times want it more for someone else than they want it for themselves.
