I have been working at Aflac full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Freedom to be your own boss, trips, bonuses, renewable income (instead of one time commission), career instead of just a job. FORTUNE 500 and a World's most Ethical Company. Great training (at least here in Wyoming) and a family mentality. Great family/work balance.

    Cons

No base pay, can be a slow start at first, you have to be very organized and self-driven, have to be licensed in life and health to sell insurance (but my management help with the process).

    Advice to Management

Don't loose focus on your clients, while trying to grow. Opening new accounts is wonderful, but not at the loss of your current customers. Balance is possible. Also, reward great customer service along with great sales.

I have been working at Aflac full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is phenomenal! Never have I experienced a better organization to work for. They take care of their employees and events better than any other I have seen.

    Cons

Activity is key to making it in this industry. Too many people think they are going to go “work for themselves”. They think being an “independent contractor” means that they can work as much or as little as they want. If you do not anticipate putting in 40 hour work weeks for the first few years then you are wasting your and your field trainer’s time. Consider yourself a “dependent contractor” for at least your first year and GO TO WORK. You are dependent on the training you’ll receive, you are dependent on the help of others, you are dependent on one of the world’s most recognizable brands and world-class marketing to help open doors for you. DO NOT START unless you are committed to working full-time until you reach your minimum income goals. Activity, activity, activity.

I have been working at Aflac as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible Schedule, Great support system and resources, Fun and lucrative company contests. There are many different types of contests that offer cash, vacations and more. I have been to Las Vegas and Cabo San Lucas on Aflacs dime!

    Cons

Depending on where you live and who you get as a regional manager, you may not get a good support system. Make sure that you are ready to work right away in order to make money.

I have been working at Aflac full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Uncapped income (being paid what you are worth), renewal income (vested at 2 years), up front commission, bonuses & company stock (consistent cash flow for doing your job and retirement basically), awesome management (people who genuinely want you to succeed), nonstop training (classroom, field, online), building your own schedule (once you have built your business which is typically after 1 year), no weekends, no holidays, tons of opportunities for growth, awesome cwrkers

    Cons

This job is everything YOU make of it. You will be an independent contractor starting your business from the ground up with the backing of an overall awesome company. The first year is hard- you have to put in the work of a 40 hour week even when you don't want to and don't have to punch a clock to do so. This job isn't for everyone but the ones who succeed and stick to it see the payoff and generally make this their life long career. You can't afford to slack off and just get by doing the bare minimum because you won't make it

I have been working at Aflac full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility in my schedule is huge! Unlimited income potential, management opportunities available. It can be hard work but it is worth it if you can stick to it and are committed to building your own business. Where else can you start a business with little to no financial investment?

    Cons

100% commission can be difficult to adjust to for some people. It just means how much you make is in your own hands.

    Advice to Management

More structure in training new hires to get them up and running quickly

I have been working at Aflac as a contractor (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Brand recognition, national marketing campaign, most ethical insurance company for years running, free marketing materials, lots of support, fast pay, residual income, renewals, stock, retirement, awards, trips, bonuses, up and coming technology

    Cons

People who weren't passionate enough about the career and didn't follow up on their clients or provide service. People looking for a quick - fix or to scam.

    Advice to Management

Continue to do your best to hire quality candidates who aren't in it for the quick fix - this is a long term business.
