I have been working at Agfa Healthcare full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, stable once you get the sense of how things work.
Products are respected in the market, that helps to get things done and fulfill that need of achievement.

    Cons

There is not a career path created by managers. You have to keep an eye on how you can grow internally, otherwise you can stay there for years (assuming you do your work alright and nothing external like a economy crash or revenue impact the business) withouth a raise.
There is a lot of people not committed to company goals. E.g. people not even answering back emails to owners of the same team. Managers don't care.
Functional teams (e.g. Sales and Services) are not integrated and each manager looks for its own interests. There are no clear responsibilities defined, ending up in confusion to those that are in the front line. At the end the customer ends with the worst part.

    Advice to Management

Look further than revenue interests. Just a few managers understand this. Look over the fence to other IT companies that try to get their employees trained, give new opportunities and responsibilities.

    Pros

AGFA is a very organized company regarding tracking and managing resources in a top/down fashion. The amount of cutting and re-organizing they finally did post merger was just crazy. So many higher up management personnel were rotated in and out that you had to be sure they could figure out what to do with this business that they had acquired and could grow or get rid of.

    Cons

The cutting of pay and benefits was hard. So many people left after the first round of cuts that there was massive talent loss.

    Advice to Management

The people at the Westerly location are good people and they know what they are doing. Stop sending managers who don't know what they are doing.

    Pros

Understanding managers. Support for work/home balance.

    Cons

1970's "information hoarding" mentality by mid-level managers from Dupont days.

    Advice to Management

Cadre of old Dupont mid-level managers have goal just to survive for the sake of their pension plan. They make commitments in a vacuum and look to pass work on to others as much as possible. Goals aren't embraced but approached as just a check-off item. They do not strive to excel and grow business through innovative thinking.

I have been working at Agfa Healthcare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Managers are not around so you can work part-time

    Cons

No room for growth, company so lean on personnel it takes forever to get things done. Technology is behind, sells vaporware and management is so old they don't care because they are on their way out. Everybody is looking for jobs so nothing gets resolved. Customers very frustrated so they are dropping like flies.

    Advice to Management

Start looking at the industry and listen to the customers and employees.

    Pros

Great People, Great work. It was a real nice environment to work in. The work was very interesting to do.

    Cons

Closed Hartland office and moved work to Canada. We were a remote development site and did not always get the same attention as the other main development sites.

    Advice to Management

Continue to work with your main and remote sites to communicate business direction and strategies.
