    Pros

Large company in many countries. Large market share. Typical benefits for the size of company.

    Cons

Too many silos. Equivalent to many companies under one roof that impacts employee effectiveness, customer satisfaction, product compatibility and time to deliver field solutions.

    Advice to Management

Focus on culture, invest in employees, invest in the long run of the company. Stop the patch work and make the necessary longterm investments.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Talented staff and a great team to work with, departments support each other. Dako products are top in quality and employees are committed ensuring that comes first, despite new management cuts in every area of the business.

    Cons

Ineffective, callous and untrustworthy director at site, no vision or ability to lead teams to success.

    Advice to Management

After years of limited back orders for Dako products and engaged employees under amazing leadership, more recent upper management is doing more blaming than leading and the result is very unhappy teams. Good employees are leaving, on their own or forced, and these people are the foundation of past successes.

lost it's way over the years, and no longer as good a place to work as it used to be. focus is on shareholder value at the expense of employees.

    Advice to Management

keep the focus on technology and on your employees. they can give you excellent return if you let them. don't waste too much time with more acquisitions.

    Pros

Agilent has a good compensation structure. First line managers are top notch.

    Cons

Upper management lacks good communication to the field. Leadership is not dynamic and are mostly finance people. Due to this, they tend to chase Wall Street for short term metrics rather than looking at a long term growth structure. Sales people are forced to make collection calls. The pension was eliminated. Many back orders and faulty products.

    Pros

Overall I believe the company solves good and challenging problems. They try to take care of their employees and seem to care about the experience employees have developed over the years. Many employees have worked at Agilent and formerly HP for a long time. Supporting and encouraging long-term employees is one of its greatest strengths.

They also seem to support employees moving to different departments/divisions in order to keep advancing in their skills/careers. However, you have to move to Santa Clara for many of these opportunities.

    Cons

I think Agilent offers substandard benefits and salary. For salary, it may be highly dependent upon the division or group in which you are employed, however, they do have a standard salary range for every position. Health benefits are substandard as well, expensive or greatly limited depending upon the plan.

People that work in Santa Clara complain that it is difficult to compete against Apple, Google, and Facebook. The benefits/salary in comparison seem so far off the mark, I wonder why the people working in Santa Clara (in software development) don't try working at these other places.

Almost everything is outsourced. From IT support to most HR functions.

In my division there was no way to advance from where I was. I didn't want to move to Santa Clara, so I was stuck.

    Advice to Management

First, do not take away a significant benefit (pension) worth 11% of salary and replace it with with an additional 2% 401k match. Secondly when changing benefits of an acquired company and very significantly reducing them, do not say that the new Agilent benefits are "Equal or Better" when they were clearly not even close to equal. The amount of credibility lost was staggering. Tell the truth: that being that Agilent is a different company and these are the benefits offered.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Was an Hewlett Packard offshoot and in some ways, particularly in the HR department, felt like how HP used to treat their employees.

    Cons

Employees no longer connected or indoctrinated to the HP (Happy People) way!

    Advice to Management

I worked at Agilent Technologies as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

-Nice campus where you get to play basketball, soccer, and beach volleyball.
-Nice location, very convenience, near Freeway 280 exit.
-You can also commute since there is shuttle within the campus to caltrain station

    Cons

-The management teams are too old, they always want like working in HP, which was liked 20 years ago.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Its a fortune 500 company, looks good on the CV and there are a few connects that you can make and maintain. Also, since the technology itself is flawless, the customer interaction and the network thus developed is quite possibly the best one can hope for.

    Cons

Office politics is encouraged and so is backstabbing. Makes for a very unhappy work environment.

    Advice to Management

Weed out the bad apples instead of making life miserable for the few good hires. Also, good customer experience equals recurring business and word of mouth publicity that is priceless. What exists now can only result in money spent on damage control.
