I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I can't find anything positiv. I am really sorry.

    Cons

Not at all customer focus. At least in the division I worked for. Processes to complicated. Everything just takes to long time. Nobody is following up.

    Advice to Management

Needs way more customer focus and a better communication with employees. Improving the process should be focus.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a job and you earn a paycheck

    Cons

Horrible pay and the benefits are close to non existent because you pay so much out of pocket. No room for advancement. Rather hire people off the street instead of in house.

    Advice to Management

Get better compensation for the workers. And treat them better all together. Allowing someone to work a holiday is not a treat. A bonus is :)

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company appears to have a nice facility in Boulder, Colorado and explains during the interview process that they are a "state of the art" facility, which sounds great when looking for a biotech manufacturing position.

    Cons

The company uses extremely dangerous organic chemicals in large quantities and under pressure. They start the training process in manufacturing before allowing the new employees to complete a list of required reading, obtain prescription safety glasses, or steel-toe shoes. There is a limited safety training class by EH&S during a 3-hour meeting, mainly warning you to be careful, "You're going to be working with some nasty chemicals." Actual safety training is provided in manufacturing through suggestions along the way while you are already working with all the equipment and chemicals. There are only a few knowledgeable, trained employees. Most of the manufacturing chemists, supervisors, and managers are new and do not have a grasp of the processes at this company.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time

    Pros

Agilent boasts proprietary production of oligonucleotides for RNA therapeutic drugs. This relatively new field shows signs of tremendous growth potential and rewarding careers.

    Cons

The middle and upper management at the Boulder facility are solely concerned about increasing profits. They seem to be a bunch of "money" people (MBAs and finance) with little to no understanding of the complexities of chemical manufacturing. Lots of lip service to safety, many appeals for overtime to stick to an unrealistic production schedule. Internal communication is basically non-existent. Infighting among departments (manufacturing, QA, QC) with little trust or respect. This facility is devoid of good leadership, with extreme incompetence in planning and scheduling, in communication and training. There is no organized training protocol, relying on chemists to relay the shitload of tribal knowledge that keeps the equipment running.

    Advice to Management

Most employees don't actually care about spreadsheets full of forecasted numbers with dollar signs. Solid and coherent communication and mutual respect would go a long way in improving the workplace dynamics.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good products. Strong executive team that means well and says the right things about fixing what's wrong

    Cons

The execs' words don't filter down. Too many people in senior mgmt have been with the company way too long. No ideas, no vision, no appetite for change. Also, too many long-term employees have been there too long; they've become so complacent that the only time they work hard is when they're fighting to preserve their status quo. There's a reason there's a ton of employees who've been there for 15+ years, a handful who've been there for 2 or less years, and nothing in between.

    Advice to Management

Hold your top managers accountable. Stop assuming the dinosaurs are giving you 100%. Clear the deadweight and stop stifling the new blood that can actually bring about the positive change you're asking for

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time

    Pros

Strong technology and good people in the surrounding departments and some within the Enterprise department.

    Cons

Lacks meaningful Leadership, direction, and communication within the Enterprise department. Lacks knowledge and experience to build and lead a strong team.

    Advice to Management

Address the issue-despite the data, repeated poor outcomes, there is no change. Why is that?

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Hewlett Packard philosophy of work/life balance, being employee-centric and testing in quality at every Process step no longer applies.

    Cons

Through constant splits of the company into smaller entities, this company has lost it's focus and drive and abandoned it's core principles. It is not the technology company it once was. It is not the employee-centric company of the last half century. Upper management has cut back salaries, benefits and opportunities. Sacrificed quality and employee satisfaction to drive lesser products to market that no longer have the highest industry standards of quality and excellence. The employees are overworked and under compensated. Management does not reward the best and brightest, but those who smile and don't complain.

    Advice to Management

Revise your strategy of upper management privilege and benefits at expense of quality products and rewarding your core teams. Otherwise the very large switch of customers to better priced, higher quality instruments will make you an also ran.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

-there are some good people left here if you can find them
if you find one, i'm told their guidance is priceless for navigating the politics

    Cons

-politics rules everything its who you know not what
    -low pay
    -very low morale
-management uses the stick instead of the carrot for motivation
    -little recognition
-quality comes second to quantity (profit)
-most employees are new 0-5 or old 20+

    Advice to Management

Most of you must go. Some of HPs cultural attributes must be recaptured and retained for this company to remain viable as it is rotting from within. You are not rewarding some of your best people. Your subordinates are not slaves. Stop sending jobs out of the USA.
