I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Customer loyalty is still strong, but a little unidirectional. There is almost NO remnant of Bill and Dave left. Maybe some Carly Fiorina?

    Cons

Company neglects its base business and new opportunities chasing the "glamour" biotech business. Customers see it and feel it. Only the really big companies seem to matter. Management is so wound up in "planning" and meetings they never see real customers. And the philosophy of " if you don't like it wait six months it'll change" is ridiculous. Try something for a year at least, let things stabilize.

    Advice to Management

Get out and see a customer once in a while. Quit trying to fix problems that don't exist.

    Pros

They still have a little of Bill and Dave's DNA, but not much.

    Cons

Company has reverse growth of 90% in the last 13 years. From about 51,000 when they split off from HP, Agilent now has about 4700 employees thanks to repeated spin-offs, mass firings and uber-stupid business decisions like trying to get 9into the MRI business. Agilent has pissed billions away on failed acquisitions and mergers.

    Advice to Management

Stat building products for the customers again, make the workforce proud to build gear the customer wants and the hell with Wall Street.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Agilent is good about working from home.

    Cons

Bonuses are less and less each year. They rolled over the ESPP Agilent stock to a portfolio that loses money monthly. Only top executives get stock. Hours are long and no teamwork among departments. Jobs are going to India and Malaysia.

    Advice to Management

Give employees back their Agilent stock. Bring back the jobs and at least pretend to care.

    Pros

Had freedom to build out new site on Drupal

    Cons

Very little support, much of staff who've worked there for ten plus years couldn't give a toss about you; an incredibly dull and uninspiring environment

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are nice and love to share their knowledge to the younger workers coming in.

    Cons

No room for growth and managers don't seem to want to grow their employees despite the age gap. Mentoring is almost non-existent and development conversations never happen despite your efforts to have them. Managers are very unknowledgeable and are making wrong decisions and prioritizing the wrong projects because of it. Intern & new hire on-boarding is complex, confusing, and the social networking activities are very dull, unhelpful, and poorly organized.

    Advice to Management

Take time to develop your employees. Listen more to your employees as they are the ones who are directly facing the customer.

    Pros

Good benefits: 401K matching, pension if you have been working there before they got rid of it, health, dental, vision.
Can be a great place to work if your immediate manager is good
Your experience in this company highly depends on which group you are in

    Cons

Everyone is nice on the surface, but there is a lot of back stabbing and territorialism going on. This place is not a good place for women to work. There are very few women in upper management. It's still an old boys network.

    Advice to Management

Please take steps to bring women in and promote them if they deserve it.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Matching 401K*
    Pension Plan*

*Anyone hired after Nov, 2014 does not qualify for pension plan. Instead those people qualify for an extra 1% match.

    Cons

Management: Seems like there are no good managers. There is too much back and forth discussion without decisions being made by the decision makers.

For a Silicon Valley company, this really isn't an employee friendly company, especially with the removal of the pension plan.

Vacation time: 15 days to start, but you HAVE to take Christmas week off. It makes it feel like you really only have 2 weeks of vacation.

Bonus: Calculated based on Operating Margin. I don't think Agilent will ever have a >20% OM in order for the employees to get a decent bonus. Not after splitting off KeySight.

    Advice to Management

    Add benefits, don't remove them.
Make decisions quickly. I realize this can be tricky to get right, but rather make a decision and correct course later instead of taking MONTHS to decide on a bad course.
