The Board is sprucing up the company just enough to they can sell it ASAP.

    Advice to Management

Try to be honest with us.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Products are well made and usually better than competition. Company is stable, and will be around for a long time, unless they get bought out by a behemoth like Danaher. Given the recent divestitures, this might be coming.

    Cons

At one time, this was a great company to work for. Over the last decade or so, benefits have gone way down, morale is low, and management does not value individual contributors. Additionally, it has become overly political, and upward mobility is highly dependent on whether or not your direct manager likes you, and what their credibility is with other senior leaders.

    Advice to Management

Work to develop employees from the ground up through steady coaching, and providing opportunities in other areas. Listen to your employees, rather than shut them down when you don't like where the discussion is headed.

    Pros

GOOD people doing the work. They are dedicated and VERY hard working. It is easy to have them as close friends

    Cons

Management - too many layers without clear sight of it's employees. Politics is bad if you get in the way. I had false charges placed by a manager I never met

    Advice to Management

    STUDY the HP Way again

I worked at Agilent Technologies as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Talented Life Sciences R and D department with good products. Get to work on interesting projects, products and cutting edge technology.

    Cons

No raise or promotion even after excellent yearly reviews due to cost cutting in everything. Expect frequent layoffs. Contractors are hardly ever hired as permanent employees and are treated unfairly. Unprofessional and incompetent management.

    Advice to Management

Need good leaders to promote talent and motivate teams instead of only focusing on short term goals.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time

    Pros

Interesting work is available to challenge engineers.

    Cons

Lower than competative wages for most US employees except very high level management.

    Advice to Management

Focus on innovation not on cost cutting. Value employees and pay above average compensation. Rebalance age distribution in US and Europe.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employees are the soul of the company, great legacy, innovative company.

    Cons

Management rules with fear of job loss unnecessarily, constant middle management turnover weakens perceptions, layoffs over even slightest dip in forecast results, drive to earn bonuses is employees' perception of management decisions

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as adults and give them a reason to feel safe and secure. Hard to have self-confident employees who spend time worrying about their jobs, even when they have done little wrong, due to management decisions.

    Pros

Good amount of vacation time. Several jobs allow you to work from home.

    Cons

Management no longer seems to value input from its employees. It is very much an "everyone can be replaced culture" now. Too bad it was so much more of a team effort back in the HP days. Compensation is no longer among industry leaders. Not even close.

    Advice to Management

You might think about listening a little bit more to your subject matter experts.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Agilent is a well known company with strong assets. The offer stock programs, and have full health benefits for full time employees. In the call center, there is the ability to have a stable job without much education.

    Cons

Agilent dropped all educational benefits in 2010. In addition, Agilent plays way too much on the stock market valuations, as opposed to sound business practices. As an example, there is/was a couple that worked in the call center, and both of them have been laid off 3 times, only to be re-hired within the next year. The money they have made on their termination packages has bought them a second home.

    Advice to Management

While this market is one for treating people like commodities, that shouldn't be made obvious by management. You had a senior manager come right out and tell everybody "we had over 100 applicants for 3 jobs" in reference to why they didn't take better care of their employees.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedules allow you to have a good work life balance. I had no problem spending time with my family, making doctors appoinments, kids recitals etc. They provide a great environment for innovation and thinking outside the box. They support you in these efforts and reward you with small trinkets and gift cards. You come up with a way to save them say 50k a year and they give you say a 25 dollar gift card(for example). It took me way too long to realize that I had to get another job so that I could reach my financial and lifestyle asperations. However, they did throw some great employee parties with good food, good music and alcohol on the company premises which made for some awesome times.

    Cons

Poor pay and raise structure. No advancement for the average Joe. Political/favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic to new hires about the potential for career growth and salary increase opportunities.
