I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is an amazing company in terms of work culture.
Great teams and products! Variety of technologies to work on and freedom to chose the technology that best fits your current product.
    A very balance work-life experience.

    Cons

A very flat structure for software development so not so much of vertical growth in Technical area if you want to stick to that one path.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Challenging work.
Great people. One of the things I think that set Agilent apart from most other technology companies in the same sector (test and measurement), is the quality of the people.

    Cons

As in any mature, high technology company, Agilent struggled with growth. Also, being a public company, they struggled with quarter by quarter results and that drove them I think to adopt a very short term horizon in at least the test and measurement side of their business.

    Advice to Management

To focus more on employee development on and into the future. The skills needed to bring the growth desired by management really depend primarily on the skills and abilities of the employees.

    Pros

Global Organization that does work you can feel proud of. Reputable company with a recognized name.

    Cons

Limited development for leaders unless you have manager willing to invest time in you. 60 hr work week is the norm. Limited investment in developing workforce for future growth

    Advice to Management

If we actually lived the Values, this would be a great place to work.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time

    Pros

Overall a good place to work. Pay, benefits, work environment were all pretty good and technically challenging. I liked the team I worked with and was challenged.

    Cons

Big company, lots of changes. I wasn't always as busy as I thought I should be. Projects changed several times.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what people say. Consider better strategic direction / clarity so there are not so many changes.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time

    Pros

Great group of employees. Everyone very welcoming and make you immediately feel like part of the team. Good visibility - within in the first month I was already working with the VP of IT.

    Cons

Older workforce. Though to find people to relate to as a new College hire. Work is very mature/ risk adverse.

    Advice to Management

Have separate training for college hires vs new hires that already have years of experience in the workforce. Could make it easier for a new College hire to adjust to first job.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time

    Pros

There are some really great people across IT and when you can develop the relationships across the various organizations within IT, you can get a lot done.

    Cons

Communication from management to staff is relatively directive, with managers making decisions with little input from the staff who manage the technology every day.

Too much reliance on outside vendors leaves Agilent employees handicapped in knowledge and ability to execute changes within the environment.

Lack of documentation exacerbates the above situation, making it difficult to understand the environment within which you are trying to work.

Not a lot of room for growth - unless you want to move to management.

Due to the fact that so much is outsourced, skills based training is not easy to obtain.

    Advice to Management

    Collaborate - upwards, sideways, downwards.
    Communicate and involve your staff.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Hewlett Packard philosophy of work/life balance, being employee-centric and testing in quality at every Process step no longer applies.

    Cons

Through constant splits of the company into smaller entities, this company has lost it's focus and drive and abandoned it's core principles. It is not the technology company it once was. It is not the employee-centric company of the last half century. Upper management has cut back salaries, benefits and opportunities. Sacrificed quality and employee satisfaction to drive lesser products to market that no longer have the highest industry standards of quality and excellence. The employees are overworked and under compensated. Management does not reward the best and brightest, but those who smile and don't complain.

    Advice to Management

Revise your strategy of upper management privilege and benefits at expense of quality products and rewarding your core teams. Otherwise the very large switch of customers to better priced, higher quality instruments will make you an also ran.
