I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I lease in the Los Angeles area which is a very tough market and high-yielding area for the company. Competitive pay. Great commission structure. Good place to learn. Training is good.

    Cons

Employees are disposable. Constant negative pressure. Upper management does not listen to concerns about your property. Resident complaints and concerns aren't taken seriously and they move out and upper management blames you for not retaining good occupancy levels. You will likely go through many different managers and co-workers here because they can't keep employees satisfied because the pressure isn't worth it to...

    Advice to Management

Give your team more work life balance and better incentives. Don't drive away good people. Give a better rent discount for those who keep your buildings occupied. I'm sure the company can afford it.

I have been working at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company has a very large portfolio Free apartments for Community Managers

    Cons

-Extremely cheap company -The benefits are laughable! You pay for your own health care because they only have high deductible insurances and an HSA -Overworked and under paid employees -No support from upper management. They only care about their bottom line and not the people working to make the company thrive. -Discrimination toward applicants who are POC (my Regional Manger changes our credit requirements because...

    Pros

    Nothing out of the average

    Cons

Be careful if you don’t make your monthly goal they will treat you like you are worthless... They do the most terrible conversion i’ve seen in my 16 years of experience. If you are not able to close a deal with a prospect regardless if the community does not have availability or specific amenities they blame it on you. Is unbelievable! Every month you need to make your goals if you don’t they will treat you again worthless.....

    Pros

So many Pros... =\ Positive impacts go unrecognized, but you’re doomed the moment you don't make goal or exceed the budget. No credit received for running a property alone, even if you save the company from lawsuits or claims. Pay and title remains the same no matter how much you accomplish or go above and beyond your “title” on a daily basis- it’s based on the amount of units the property has. Safety hazards take...

You are accountable for the workload of 3 people with less time to complete- company cuts employee hours, even with an additional workload (overtime not acceptable) just so corporate can make their financial goals to receive their bonuses. Corporate office overworks property staff and pushes to make unreasonable goals so that you forfeit a bonus or receive a pay raise. Soul purpose of this company is to squeeze whatever...

    Pros

Great coworkers. If you need to relocate they own properties all over the country for you to go to. .

    Cons

It amazes me how little this company cares for customers and employees. Pay is not great for leasing consultants and you rely on commission checks that are lackluster and based off ridiculous monthly sales goals. Benefits are horrible, hours are horrible. Everyone i’ve met that works for the company is stressed out and wants to quit. Residents are responsible for paying EVERYTHING and complain frequently, which all falls...

    Advice to Management

Think more about the customer and employees instead of yourself. I get its a business, but people (employees AND residents) are dropping like flies. Take complaints INTO CONSIDERATION when making decisions. A 2 year old could run this company better.
