I have been working at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Aimco has done a great job of creating buy-in to the culture. We all know our mission, vision, cultural pillars, customer service philosophy and core values. Communication is consistent and often and I am regularly encouraged to provide feedback. I have walked into SVPs offices and told them what we could improve on and they made me feel valued because I was providing open and honest feedback - it doesn't feel like you're...

    Cons

We are not perfect. At the corporate level, we deal with a lot of numbers and sometimes we make decisions based on those numbers without considering the impact we have on the people who live in our apartment homes. I understand we are a business, but I think people should enter into the equation more.

    Advice to Management

Aimco is on the right track. We call our residents "new Aimco family members" but it's one thing to say it and another to show it.

I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most departments have great work life balance, casual dress, an annual bonus if you meet your yearly goals, friendly staff, and you even get time to volunteer in your community.

    Cons

Our department was in a constant state of flux. Managers, Directors, and team mates were always coming and going which made it hard to have set goals to strive towards. They also tend to promote very results driven people, which are not always the best leaders or team mates. They are very budget focused and are always keeping an eye on the bottom line, so you have to really make a compelling case for each project which...

    Advice to Management

Focus on leaders that are not only results driven but that also care about their employees, so you actually want to work with them. Trust people to do their jobs a bit more, and help to make it easier for them to do so.

I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people and the pay. Aimco also gives back to the community with volunteer work. Their annual bonuses are also great.

    Cons

No work/life balance, far too much work, too much stress, constant fire drills, east coast teams are disrespectful, each day is an absolute grind, some management is inept, deceptive, and despicable in their style of management. The cultural attributes are laughable and often times used as punishment. Turnover is high.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees to work from home and come in past 8:00 am, support your employees not just management, allow for family time, keep the workload at manageable level, REALLY listen to your employees. Senior leadership should REALLY have a conversation with their employees and HR should stop playing favorites. You are losing fantastic people because of the old school ways in which employees are treated.

I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes

    Pros

Offers almost ever level and type of job from home base to onsite management.

    Cons

Too concerned with financial bottom line and public appearance due to a political infrastructure. The base of corporate employees are young - under 35 for the most part, and have yet to develop logic and understanding of true business ethics, There is far too much internal game playing for position and creates an almost hostile unspoken workplace with employees afraid to really speak.

    Advice to Management

The gap between the executive level and the internal staff is like watching from a cliff with the Gods of mythology to the frolicking youth below. There needs to me a true meeting of the minds, mixing the generations and seeing that being open to opinions from all directions is a winning combination. You can only throw candy from a parade float to get support for so long, the sugary platitudes will cause a decay in employee...
