I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time

    Pros

Aimco is a great company to be FROM. You can learn a lot about the industry & best practices. You'll also have the opportunity to meet some phenomenal coworkers!

I loved the opportunity for cross-team collaboration. That gave me the ability to truly learn the business.

    Cons

Aimco is an eat 'em up & spit 'em out kind of company. No matter how much you think you're liked, respected, needed, etc I promise you that you are just a peg on the corporate board. Don't full yourself - EVERYONE is replaceable and the jerk boss I had was fond of telling everyone that over & over again.

The culture roll out was fantastic & had so much potential to really turn things around. Unfortunately, it just became another thing that management uses against you. The culture values sound great on paper but the execution of them is surface level only.

Aimco has a way of making everyone feel like an idiot. You're NOT - you're just working for narcissists.

I thought I was well paid at Aimco until I left.

    Advice to Management

Chill out! This is a people business. Treat your customers whether their your employees or residents with some dignity & respect. Leadership by intimidation is NOT leadership.

HR - start paying attention! There are a lot of very inappropriate things that 'leadership' gets away with.

I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Learned a lot about laws and PM, in general, benefits not bad, coworkers generally friendly

    Cons

    1. Price gouging residents: rent, parking, pets, parking, storage, carport, renewal rents, for EVERYTHING they are charged.
    2. Lacks ability to find competent vendors to upkeep properties SO; micromanaging vendor falls on already short staffed team.
    3. No connection to employees that work on site who are directly responsible for bringing in the revenue for the company. No interest in them at all as "people"; just producers. Very obvious.
Employees at properties are "numbers" only and ONLY as good as their results from day before regardless of past performance.
    4. Constant micromanaging of on site teams through reports without spending quality time at the properties to see what is really going on and how they perform daily.
    5. Level of greed by upper management is very transparent as seen through all of the creative ways to grab money from residents.
    6. Heavy turn over of employees
    7. Corporate makes all decisions yet puts property teams name on all correspondence so they are not in position to explain themselves. It appears all of these decisions are made by on site team which is wrong. A call center should be answering these questions for corporate.
    8. Workload too heavy for already short staffed on site teams.

    Advice to Management

Fix the items above. Loyal, hard working, and dedicated employees with a good moral compass would not want to leave Aimco if you did. Also, you would build a more loyal resident base vs. the transient lifestyle at most communities due to price gouging.

    Pros

The people that I work with are very fun! I have build great relationships with some of the residents at this particular property. Also, the commission was outstanding if goal was made.

    Cons

There are so many policies and procedures to follow you can get lost with what is right and what is wrong. You do a computer training but then office staff and the corporate offices train you differently,y
