      Balance is key

      Pros

      - Some of the top pay in the industry: expect multiple avenues for bonus potential, top tier salary expectations, and increased yearly raises based upon personal performance -Well rounded experience: Expect to be better prepared than anyone else with a "Property Manager" title in the industry. From major renovations, projects, contractors, bid negotiations: you will experience it all. -Advancement opportunities: This is the single most positive for AIMCO. Be effective, be consistent, and the opportunities to grow will be available to you.

      Cons

-Tough to be autonomous: There is minimal ability to innovate on a property level, too many cooks in the kitchen, and a staggering amount of middle manager title's who have input on what goes on on a site level. Often to the detriment of staff, residents, and effectiveness of major projects. -Resident Experience: we need to find cost effective ways to provide an exceptional experience while operating within our budgets. Challenging to do this when these ideas are quickly disregarded. -Corporate Politics: Exhausting, nonsensical, and counter productive. Middle/Upper management should insulate their sales personnel & site teams from this as much as possible.

      Finance group

      Pros

You can get experience with a large organization in a growing industry.

      Cons

You will have to leave to get any meaningful career advancement. Anything in the finance planning and accounting groups are dead end jobs and you can forget about moving horizontally to something with career potential in asset management or acquisitions/development. The jungle gym internal movement structure is fine but they keep separate playgrounds so you will be stuck in essentially the same job and don’t believe otherwise. With the company splitting those off any hope of real progress will be impossible as they likely just won’t hire from the operations company or will deny transfers. The pay is also well below market and other more well managed REITs will treat you infinitely better. For the reasons above the turnover is high and those with talent rarely last more then a year as they leave for superior shops.

      Pros

You will work with some of the most incredible people during your time with Aimco and feel that you are all in it together (until you can no longer drink the Aimco Kool-Aid.) Any job at Aimco you will gain experience and skills that will strength your resume and up skill you for the next opportunity.

      Cons

It is true that Aimco is not for everyone. It is an amazing culture if you put in the time and sacrifice for the company. Lack of work life balance. Ask anyone you interview with at Aimco how many hours they work a week... Don't get trapped based on your total compensation package (not benefits - lacking). Layoffs are year-around as it is how they manage their budget and how senior management maximizes their bonus potential.
