I have been working at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Excellent culture
    Amazing teammates
Leadership that cares for team members
    Competitive pay
Dedicated paid hours to serve community (Aimco Cares)
    Fun
    Successes celebrated
    Like a family
    Challenging work
Continually strives to improve culturally, impacting performance positively
    Flexible dress standards (corporate offices)
    Flexible schedules (where applicable)
    Work-life balance encouraged

    Cons

Positive culture in various levels of adoption in some small pockets
401(k) match is OK but not great

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing forward with positively influencing our culture and cultural expectations throughout the company. Be careful about sending mixed messages (e.g., rewarding those who perform well financially but who do not live by our values and culture sends the wrong message). Keep showing the team you care deeply for us by continuing to listen to team member ideas and improving our culture.

I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Independent running of property as long as numbers are up and control is maintained. Enjoyable. Good benefits, pay is the best in business.

    Cons

Being publicly traded you have to attest that the financials are perfect before submitted which can be scary when at the property level not everything is in your control (corporate added expenses and such). Also, certain properties are for sale so you may or may not work for AIMco in the long run if your property is sold. Upward mobility is somewhat limited.

    Advice to Management

I was always impressed with the face time that upper management had even the CEO came to my property.

I worked at Aimco Apartment Homes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Training Material and Facilitators Are Excellent
    The Pay
    Career Opportunities

    Cons

Great training but they don't enforce or support it; They tell you to create "Moments That Matter" but put ducktape on that hot water heater
Excellent pay because they have unrealistic expectations of you; You have to pay obscene salaries because your life will no longer be your own
Plenty of career opportunities because its a revolving door; Their retention rate is the WORSE. One manager quit via a post-it and another who relocated from Atlanta, called from the road on his way back to Atlanta.
They Do Not Value Their People; The Employees are escape goats and pawns for corporate mistakes
No work/life balance; 10-11pm emails and phone calls that aren't emergencies
They believe in patch work, not permanent fixes; They do not take care of their assets
Roaches, Rats, and Roof Leaks-One of the properties I managed for them had ongoing issues with all three of these things, long before I got there and they never wanted to find a solution

    Advice to Management

If one of your regionals has less industry experience than the entire portfolio he/she acquired, which was successful before she took it over, and decides to slowly fire everyone in that portfolio...At what point do you then look at her?
