I worked at Air Products full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, plus bonus

    Cons

Not telling employees that their jobs were being shipped overseas until the day we got our separation notices.

    Advice to Management

When management knows that there are changes coming that are going to adversely impact a lit of people, they should be honest and let people know that they need to prepare.

I worked at Air Products (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Offices were comfortable, some of the people were nice.

    Cons

Managers expected one person to support 35 people - a prescription for failure. They also took everyone 8-1/2 years vested and laid them off to make sure they could not get the money that was theirs. It was in the Morning Call. Shame on you , Air Products

    Advice to Management

Get in some Senior Management who have consciences and are compassionate.

I worked at Air Products full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to define new products/markets ( 1979-1995), then finding new partners (late 90's), and a leadership ( Donley/Baker) who understood R&D.

    Cons

Leadership shifted to "accounting", minimize R&D ( by technology-but limited understanding of it), failed efforts to develop new internal expertise, new leaders ( CEO and VPs) who did not know the markets/products ( like L. Poole wanted, and reduced interest to work with local communities during the past 10 years- due to poor decision making and no change in leadership

    Advice to Management

Read the book - OUT OF THIN AIR, understand what L. Poole did and why - he was a sales person who appreciated R&D. Train your staff vs. making them fight against each other --to win CEO/VP favor, and consider what Dex Baker did with AR&D, and the attitude of Ed Donley - to appreciate the staff-even in time of poor results. The last 3 CEO, Pres. Chairman of Board -The same person-- need to plan ahead and get those who will tell you when you are wrong-and not being fired 10 min later. See what AIRGAS/PRAX/Air Liquide did --to learn the market they served....and why APCI had to sell Spec. Gas./Elec. Gases/Chemicals/etc. --and today have a hard time to sell bulk gases--N2/O2/H2/He - that built the firm and now have few technical leaders.

Liked the work group until all the reorganization

    Cons

Sad how it's changing with the new CEO

I worked at Air Products as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great set of experienced people who are amazing mentors
    Friendly
    They care about your success
They are ready and available to help when asked

    Cons

Big age gap--a bunch of experienced people and few inexperienced ones
Did not plan for an intern, so they did not have much work for me
I was sitting in my office doing nothing for days at a time because they did not want to give me any work (or they did not have time to explain the projects they had to me)

    Advice to Management

Plan better for interns, and make sure you have work for them wherever you send them, otherwise you are wasting your time and money, and you're wasting the intern's time. The intern comes to the company to learn, but when he or she is watching YouTube all day because there is no work, it does not look good on either party.

I worked at Air Products as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

very friendly welcoming staffs. everyone in the team welcomed me and made sure to help me with every little thing. the HR person and my boss were particularly helpful.

    Cons

My only complaint would be that in this job there is not much chance for future career advancement. As they are not hiring people for full-time position for this job this internship was an exciting addition in my resume and an important milestone for me but I would love to have an option to work here permanently.

    Advice to Management

Please consider creating full-time position for this job.

  10. "Good company but needs to grow through investment"

    StarStarStarStarStar

Current Employee - Engineering Manager in Allentown, PA

I have been working at Air Products (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Friendly company to work for with great work-life balance. Plenty of smart, motivated people to work with. Group management was challenging but in line with expectations. Company performs well financially.

    Cons

Difficult to grow the business as strong reluctance to spend capital. Strong preference for growth by cost cutting but the fruit has been picked off the tree.

    Advice to Management

Plenty of growth opportunities out there for acquisition, etc. The fruit tree has been picked. Time to grow by investing.
