    Pros

Very flexible work-hours and ability to work from home.

    Cons

The company is notorious for its top-down management style. If the higher-ups make a mistake, the subordinates are expected to solve it without voicing their feedback upwards. Their ideal employee (at any level) tolerates ineptitude and keeps their mouth shut, which breeds a culture of complacency in the lower-level employees, and ignorance in the higher level employees. Most stress/frustration from the job is the result of mismanagement instead of productive challenges.

    Advice to Management

Middle management is lacking in leadership, willingness to take a risk, or report bad news to their superiors. The current CEO was hired from outside specifically to change this type of culture. His vision of Air Products becoming "a company of 20,000 CEOs" is exactly what is needed, but most of his advice falls on deaf ears because his direct-reports are only comfortable with the "old way" Air Products operated and are trying to outlast a CEO that they hope will retire soon.

Lateral and vertical moves are available.
    Great Benefits.
Opportunities for foreign and domestic travel.
Opportunities for both design and operations work.
    Friendly people.
    PE's not required.
Low activity in regards to new projects due to the low oil prices.

    Cons

Lower salary in comparison to competitors.
Recent layoffs have caused the atmosphere and culture to shift towards a less open and friendly environment.
Majority of higher grade positions are only available in Allentown, PA.
Lack of personnel available between the ages of 35-50 therefore most people are either close to retirement or are still considered entry level.
    Lack of external training offered.
Personnel are typically kept at the same grade level as their peers (age group) therefore excelling professional in Air Products will take some time even if you are a high performer.

    Advice to Management

Allow high performing employees to take on challenging positions.
Provide an opportunity for employees to provide feedback on upper management.

I have been working at Air Products (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good operational and project investment analysis learning; encourage to move around to gain different experiences; work/life balance if in right group; Friendly environment within finance

    Cons

very structured org, slow to move up the ladder, work crazy hours if in wrong group, less opportunities to move up if only staying in one place, promotion decision made by big finance group with ppl don't know your performance at all

    Advice to Management

Does it really make sense to let big finance group to make decision on promotions while most of them have no direct information on how that employee performed? Instead, should let internal clients to be part of the decision making as they know better how that person performs.

    Pros

The company has successfully narrowed its focus and improved results to satisfy Wall St. Also, the company is now in a much better position to compete. Two competitors have merged, and two more were considering merging.

The environment in the corporate HQ is very professional.

    Cons

On the engineering side, a couple layers of management have been removed, but there are still too many. The workload is slow in some areas, while busy in others. Middle management and the business area do not appear to know what to do to prepare for the future.

Growth will be slow with the current leadership and is exacerbated in a low global growth.

    Advice to Management

In Engineering, eliminate at least one more management layer. Quickly determine where the growth will be over the next 5-10 years and prepare to compete in those regions and/or technologies.

    Pros

Great co-workers. Some management very human. The area is a nice place to live, with good schools for your children.

    Cons

Too much travel, letting long term employees go when they are "cheaper to replace" (I left of my own accord), very "Stepford People" environment. Expect total loyalty from employees but give none in return.

    Advice to Management

Respect you people more. Too many folks are let go who have done their jobs well, but become "too expensive". Calling folks on Saturday informing they'll be traveling for two weeks starting the next day is hardly respecting your employees.

I have been working at Air Products full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Steady hours, good pay and benefits. Work life balance is good, is a union show so very well kept as in equipment and safety.

    Cons

Managment forgets to consider human factor at times. Union and managment need to get along and work things out instead of pointing fingers all the time.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your good people and they will flourish.

I worked at Air Products full-time

    Pros

Exposure & Training in different fields while in a position
    Good & helping co-workers
    Acceptable pay for the industry

    Cons

Since the new CEO came in the company morale dipped. Bill Ackman placed the CEO in the company with the intention of reducing costs, and thousands of people have been laid off.

Company has become a numbers company and no opinion matters besides the business people

    Advice to Management

None. They are executing their strategy as intended. It's just a bad strategy. People will leave.

    Pros

Great place to work, but you get what you put in. Lots of opportunity to move up if you apply yourself.

    Cons

Part of the sales is dependent on the location. If you are in a low industry area you might not see as much success as people in industrial areas.
