I have been working at Airgas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefit package, safety oriented and understanding managers. There is a lot of possible overtime if you want it and pretty laid back job.

    Cons

Poor pay and causes a quick turnover rate and a lot of overtime. Policies and the cameras can be hard to deal with especially if not rewarded with raises and bonuses.

I have been working at Airgas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have made more more each year I've been with the company.
They give you authority to make decisions and take charge to satisfy the customer.
Clear set of objectives they expect you to meet(dials/mins, new accounts, gm, par).
Opportunity to meet with manufacturers reps.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations for dials/minutes and growth goals which do not take into consideration economy or leads and ups and downs of the job and clients)
    Non-comprehensive training
Some managers make meeting goals and expecations more difficult than they need to be..arbitrarily declaring some accounts new and others not.
    High turn over.
Quick Burn out for some people.
    Poor leads
Accounts aren't manged. You may have one accoutn with several ship toos and several persons responsible and internal fighting over who gets credit or blame

    Advice to Management

Set realistic goals for incremental growth.
Look for ways to make your people meet and exceed goals/expectation and not fail by rejecting new accounts.
Higher calibre of people achieve higher results and give you lower turn over.
Look at your turn over rate, to see if it helps or hinders the company from meeting it's goals. Customers don't like having a new rep ever over month.

    Pros

Not many, Not many, Not many

    Cons

Leadership is absent; cannot commit to a decision at the pace of business. No clear strategy or goals. Repetitive talk on cut costs, increase sales; no strategy on how company is going to do that.

    Pros

Lots of training for opportunities to close transaction. Good benefits. Good pay. Willing to help employees out to learn more about the industry to become successful.

    Cons

Some task needs to be done with customer service or sales support instead of the sales representatives handling them. Make sure that the branches PGI the purchase orders more timely.

    Advice to Management

Be more willing to show appreciation for those who are hitting their numbers. Also make sure that the work environment is flowing with respect among all co-workers.

Current Employee - Branch Manager in Louisville, KY

    Pros

Company will invest in your future with tuition reimbursement
As a branch manager, there is flexibility with your schedule.
Depending on the position you have, there are perks.

    Cons

Branch Managers are being more and more limited in what they can actually "do". Over the years, the role has changed into being overpaid baby sitters. Also, the manager plays backup to every role in the branch to cover vacations. There are 10 different bosses to answer to, each with their own agenda, none of which are in harmony with the other. By far, the role is 100 times more stressful than it was 5 years ago. The company is extremely top heavy and the restructuring that took place in 2012 has hurt the culture that was once something to speak of.

    Advice to Management

Air Liquide purchased Airgas this year and I am curious to see the changes that are implemented. More focus needs to be on keeping your employees at the branch (drivers and inside sales are not as easy to replace as in the past with all the DOT/hazmat regulations)
