I have been working at Airgas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Consistent hours, colleagues. Almost everything else about the job.

    Cons

Everything at airgas is good, that is until you ask for the incremental raises which are promised to you when your hired,
New hires come in making the same or sometimes more than current high performing employees. We all go to work for pay, so to be mislead by the company is certainly a problem.
Finger pointing is a real problem within airgas, specifically targeted toward the drivers.
Managers at a local level do what they can to back the drivers but it's like a constant slanging "accusations" match.

    Advice to Management

Value your drivers & plant operations staff. Pay promised raises to valued employees. And stop the finger pointing.

    Pros

    Opportunity to make good money
    Lots of customers through acquisitions
    Flexibility
Good commission structure only when things are going great

    Cons

    Lack of management support
    Different initiatives changing everyday
Borderline price gouging customers through price increases
    Inconsistent pricing
Too many management positions that have nothing to do with the bottom line
    Overall chaos.

    Advice to Management

Upper management changes often. Who even knows who the Area President, AVP, DMs, Sales Managers, ABOCs are for each area.

    Pros

Willing to invest in the development of their employees to ensure their success within the company, which is very unique. The company also has a vast array of products and services they provide to their customer base which is huge. Recession proof!!!!

    Cons

As with any large organization things move slowly, but the important thing is that they are always striving to change for the better

    Advice to Management

Keep on, doing a great job and moving the company in the right direction.

I have been working at Airgas (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Co-workers. Colleagues. Fellow personnel. Drivers

    Cons

Poorly managed. Broken dated equipment, will fire employees at the drop of a hat. No job security.

    Advice to Management

Pay the drivers what they deserve. Pay class A drivers more than class B, otherwise where is the incentive to drive a vehicle requiring more skill, and more responsibility. Don't over load the driver with work. Especially new drivers and expect them to be safe.
Management should be held accountable not just drivers. Don't call employees when they've worked a 60 hour week at 11:30 at night because a place they deliver to is having a problem. Completely unrelated to the driver.
