I worked at Akebono Corporation (North America) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

At first glance there seems to be a lot of possibility, specifically with the high performance group. A good starting point for a career definitely not long term. Many employees are very carefree.

    Cons

The company is probably 10-15 years behind any other supplier of brakes in terms of just development. They have been losing money for every year for quite a few years now, and that isn't changing. Turnover rate is high and that isn't surprising considering that there isn't really anything new happening at the company. My suggestion to anyone thinking of working here would be to look elsewhere unless you are in desperate need of experience.

    Advice to Management

Recognize your strengths and weaknesses and capitalize on them. As the company is now they are almost two decades behind the worst competitor, and the people who work within are not too concerned about it.

I worked at Akebono Corporation (North America) full-time

    Pros

Great opportunities to transfer to other departments and gain broader engineering experiences.

    Cons

In the past couple of years, there has been a mass exodus to other companies that have been thriving with the rest of the auto industry. I left right before many long-time veterans left the company. Bidding for projects that had little to no margin.

I have been working at Akebono Corporation (North America) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is a Japanese company hence layoffs are lesser than in most local companies
This being comparatively a smaller company, with good skills, one can contribute more and succeed.

    Cons

There is not a lot of communication between the various departments and is pretty much over the wall transaction between departments.

I worked at Akebono Corporation (North America) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Above average pay for manufacturing, can increase or even double salary with overtime, can learn alot in the automotive manufacturing industry, ok benefits. Variety of shifts.

    Cons

Long hours:6 and 7 day workweeks all year long,8 to 12 hr days. harsh working conditions in some areas.have vacation days and cant use them when you want. No time for school or a social life, you wont see your friends and family or significant other. If youre single and no kids go for it

    Advice to Management

Cut down on the hostile environment, and let your employees have some time off. And get shift coordinators to have some accountability

I worked at Akebono Corporation (North America) (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay for the area. You'll never be hurting for overtime. Honest work.

    Cons

Mind numbingly redundant and if you're a sociable person, gossip is one of the biggest forms of entertainment. If you have anything that needs to maintained frequently (outside of work) you won't make it here.

    Pros

Great people. Everyone is available to help and answer any questions you may have. Paid holidays.

    Cons

You will be tons of experience in the labs with the techs but hardly any alongside an engineer.
