I worked at Aker Solutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

plenty of opportunities to see how things operate or function within the EPC process and also plenty of chances to work with executive mgt.

    Cons

career development seemed to be more talk than action, but I'll chalk that up to the downturn in the industry in 2015

I have been working at Aker Solutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very laid back. No one rides your but as long as you do your work and have it done in time.

    Cons

No room for growth. Management has no spine or a leg to stand on in the Houston area. Every other area seems to be catered to. No room for self improvement or advancement. No kind of pay increases in going on 4 years When though mangers have gotten bonuses. When I started it was a really great place to work. That has gone to hell in a hand basket.

    Advice to Management

Grow spines. Take care of your good workers. Weed out the hacks. Be open and upfront with your employees. Get some sort of pay increases or incentives tossed to your tech's or anything to bring moral up.

I worked at Aker Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance, awesome pay, and the people around have good attitudes

    Cons

No career development, no room to grow, no accountability, every man for themselves, no leadership skill, no open mind too close minded.

If you want to just make good money and ok with not growing, this company is for you. They will pay you, but you will be held down on your career growth.

    Advice to Management

In order to change the culture it takes changing the people.

Stop talking about and be able about.
Challenge your employees, don't let them get comfortable. Make them learn more so you don't have to rely on one person.
You should able to rely on everyone. It's not a one man team.

    Pros

    Good technical senior staff.
Some very good engineers and industry leaders
Have good products that can really sell in the gulf.

    Cons

    No career path for engineers.

Management thinks only project engineers and managers are worthy of raises and promotions.
Keep changing titles among a handful of the people and keep calling it streamlining or reorganisation.

Like to add own flavor to industry's best practices like lean and kaizen with lack luster attitude as leaders lack experience.

Keep hiring outside candidates on director level roles.

    Advice to Management

Promote sound technical people to managerial roles. Engineering is more than just time, schedule and resource management.
