I have been working at Akira Chicago full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

For me the most important thing about my career is being in an environment where I can truly be myself and agree with the company's vision/direction!

Majority of retailers are dropping the ball when it comes to "customer service"!
Akira's expectation is to provide THE BEST EXPERIENCE TO THE CUSTOMER. Every customer is treated like a celebrity without having to pay for that experience.

Traveling and meeting teams has been EYE OPENING! In the retail industry, it's all about being a "certain type", not with Akira.
The owners and senior managers really empower employees to be who they are!

This not only inspires me but reassures me that I have joined an amazing company!

    Cons

There are no cons only opportunities. I believe when there are opportunities there is growth, and with growth you become stronger and better!

Akira is only getting STRONGER and BETTER.

    Pros

If you can dedicate 100% of your time to the company, this is the place. Tons of events and parties!

    Cons

They run you into the ground. There was no positive motivation. I was mislead by the area supervisor as to my position and the hours from the beginning. If you can't dedicate 100% of your life to the company, don't even bother.

I have been working at Akira Chicago full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Honestly,
There's no good reason to work for Akira. The best part was the discount which is 30-40%.
Don't let the area managers screw you over with there shady pay-grid. You only makes 4% commission. That's like 200 for every 5000 you sale in merchandise,Managers are required to sale 20,000-25,000 per month. Please don't fall below. This job is not long term. No room for growth

    Cons

    Low paying job.
    Lots of unethical behaviors.
Area managers and director of stores are horrible.
    Micro managed.
Stylist makes 4 dollars a hour.
    Turnover is 100 %
    Long hours
    No PTO.
    Lots of favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Please do your research. Listen to the poor reviews it's true. I would consider a better place who believes in their employees.

I worked at Akira Chicago full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Forefront of fashion.
    Close community of people.
People at the office are awesome
Very accepting of any life style
    Average pay

    Cons

    Are you two faced? Perfect
Can you repeatedly lie to people? Perfect
Do you suck up to your boss? Perfect
    Are you unorganised? Perfect
Do you run a store like a complete mess? Perfect
Do you glorify your sales team and ignore literally everyone else? Perfect

Akira is a company that has so much potential but no idea how to run it. The CEO Erika is the only business minded person in the company. The other two with her along with the sales director and most of the other DM's are literally children who act like highschoolers. They meddle into other people's lives and take no actual action with their stores. All they care about is making a quick dollar. Not investing into people and seeing the real potential they have. They are extremely two faced and have no moral high ground. I've never worked for a company that I wanted to see grow so much yet hated all the people behind it.

    Advice to Management

Stop glorifying your sales team and ignoring the rest. Your stores are engines. They need more than just fuel to run.

    Pros

The only good thing about this company is the discount.

    Cons

No official protocol. For example you get hit by shoplifters they never told us what to do but always encouraged us to chase them throughout the mall or to their car and get our product back.

Senior management really only cares about numbers and your sales not much about the store.

I was In a store with like 6 other managers 3 store managers-- we were a bad paring and never seen eye to eye leading to several team resignations
    .

    Advice to Management

    Invest in your good people.

I worked at Akira Chicago full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Honestly the only upside was that there was a Starbucks next door. This company has zero pros.

    Cons

No policy and procedure, employee theft, racial profiling, drug use in corporate settings, underage drinking condoned by owners, no real business experience needed

    Advice to Management

Stop juggling people around and create structure within store. Three store managers in one store is not the key to success. It just means you have three managers that can't even complete one job. This also takes away responsibility from other co managers and key holders. Also please pay your associates and stop coercing them to work off the clock. It is illegal.

I worked at Akira Chicago full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Have to think like a business owner

    Cons

Paycheck are never right, when it comes to Store Management. I worked for 2 months and every single pay check was wrong. As a store manager you are suppose to run your store, they expect you to sell more than staff member! Who is running the store if you "Store Manager" is selling. Over-all horrible company to work for, paychecks never right, very unprofessional, the company owners and upper management is ran like a ZOO! They have no clue as to Business! Never work here if you are looking for a career!

    Advice to Management

    Check your paychecks!
