I have been working at Aksia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Work alongside some really bright and analytical minds
    - Pay is above-market (leadership is very generous with year-end bonuses)
    - Flat hierarchy compared to other firms
    - Rewards entrepreneurial-type people who like to take initiatives

    Cons

    - Could be useful to have a structured training program in place for new hires

    Pros

The lean teams really allow you to take ownership over your work and strive to make the company better through entrepreneurial projects. The people who work at Aksia are hard working and smart which creates a stimulating environment to be a part of. The job is a great combination of both hard skills (writing reports, modeling in Excel) and soft skills (communicating with clients). If you are out of college, you can probably learn more from this job than from a big bank AND with a good work/life balance.

    Cons

You will be tasked with a lot, so time management skills can come in handy. In terms of compensation, the bonus is discretionary/ unclear, and given that its a small company, it is hard to predict growth opportunities.

I have been working at Aksia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    1) People: Smart, hard working and fun. Flat structure, great mentorship from senior people.
    2) Culture: Even though the company has been around for 10 years and is very established, it still has a start-up vibe. Good work-life balance and management very respectful of people's time.
    3) Work: Lots of opportunities/freedom to take initiatives and work on a wide range of projects. Great rotational program for analysts. Exposure to various strategies and funds. Many different challenges and learning opportunities, it is a pleasure to go to work everyday.

    Cons

No cons. The investment analyst position requires a lot of writing on a daily basis, so you should be comfortable with writing.

I worked at Aksia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing combination of a place that is both business-driven and intellectually rigorous. Most people at Aksia are really smart and multi-dimensional.
Flat organization, work closely with partners. Many opportunities to get involved with things that interest you, rise in the organization.
Very generous compensation and work-life balance.
Opportunity to travel and work from other offices.
    Leader in the industry.

    Cons

Firm is doing really well and growing in personnel. This may detract from the special startup feel it had in the early years.

    Advice to Management

Biggest challenge will be to maintain the start-up feel as they grow in personnel. Would be a shame to fall into a routine of "group-think," see a decline in the skepticism that is so important to the job.

    Pros

Thrilling, intellectual work environment where you can be hands on in many aspects of the business. The partners are not only extremely intelligent and good at what they do but they are kind, level-headed people who actually care about the well being of their employees.

    Cons

No serious cons - sometimes lack of structure (too many cooks in the kitchen) can be frustrating but more often than not the "flat" organization is a positive and encourages brainstorming and new ideas
