I have been working at Alaska Airlines part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Unlimited travel for you and your family, great schedules, awesome coworkers, fun events, unlimited opportunities to grow within the company.

    Cons

Miscommunication with management, passengers love to take their anger out on you and not enough agents so your assigned lots of overtime at peak periods.

    Advice to Management

Please make sure you guys are all on the same page. It can be misleading to the agents that are wanting to thrive here!

I have been working at Alaska Airlines full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

For the most part, a good place to work. Most take pride and ownership in the company.Safety and compliance is top priority.

    Cons

Under staffed in many areas and it is starting to show.

    Advice to Management

I know you want to have the small company feel but you are one of the big boys now. Time to act like it in some areas.

    Pros

We receive great benefits and they treat us well on the job. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement in the company.

    Cons

The pay is a little low and everything like vacation bids and shift bids are based on seniority and hen you first start its a little rough.

I have been working at Alaska Airlines part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice people, flexible work schedules, decent benefits.

    Cons

All company profits are tied up in improving customer experience or rewarding shareholders, therefore next to nothing is spent to support back office staff. This is evidenced by crazy burden placed on management (non customer-facing employees)...poorly managed facilities (1980s decor, mismatched office furniture, inefficient HVAC, etc), lack of IT resources and admin support, lack of time to ensure quality, etc. It is difficult to meet deadlines, get responses from other departments, or schedule a meeting because everyone is crazy busy. The company winds up taking the cheap/quick approach, rather than the best approach, to solve a problem, which results in inefficiency and wasted resources down the line. A vicious cycle ensues. Maddening!

    Advice to Management

Loosen purse strings to support innovation and quality, resource and staff back office positions. Don't bypass dollars to pinch pennies. Think long term.

I have been working at Alaska Airlines (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great travel benefits, although flights are often full. Work with a diverse fun set of coworkers. Airline is growing quickly, seniority is rapidly improving.

    Cons

Starting pay is very low. Not a lot of support from management. Inconsistentcy with company policies. Management runs as an inefficient beuracracy.

    Advice to Management

Take action to make your employees feel valued. Develop consistent policy and stick to it. More management is not necessary, instead streamlining management would prove beneficial.

I have been working at Alaska Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing employees, incredible culture, and fantastic senior leaders. The company is doing the best it's ever done financially.

    Cons

Pay is low...painfully low. Flight privileges are great if you are single or don't have kids but flying standby with children is a pain and in my opinion not worth it.

    Advice to Management

Flight oriviliges do not make up for the low pay - pay your employees what they are worth or you'll lose them. Money isn't everything - but it's certainly something. It's time to make it a non-issue. Especially in a place where cost of living is so high.
