I have been working at Alaska Airlines part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice people, flexible work schedules, decent benefits.

    Cons

All company profits are tied up in improving customer experience or rewarding shareholders, therefore next to nothing is spent to support back office staff. This is evidenced by crazy burden placed on management (non customer-facing employees)...poorly managed facilities (1980s decor, mismatched office furniture, inefficient HVAC, etc), lack of IT resources and admin support, lack of time to ensure quality, etc. It is difficult to meet deadlines, get responses from other departments, or schedule a meeting because everyone is crazy busy. The company winds up taking the cheap/quick approach, rather than the best approach, to solve a problem, which results in inefficiency and wasted resources down the line. A vicious cycle ensues. Maddening!

    Advice to Management

Loosen purse strings to support innovation and quality, resource and staff back office positions. Don't bypass dollars to pinch pennies. Think long term.

    "Good career"

    Pros

Management seems to be cognizant of industry trends and has reacted appropriately. Good place to spend a career or a few years.

    Cons

It has become more and more like any other big company where HR runs the show and the bottom line is all that matters.

    Advice to Management

Stay true to the company's roots and make more decisions with your employees interest in mind. This will allow ur "virtuous" cycle to truly come to fruition.

    Pros

Inclusive and diverse culture, pretty good communications, fantastic flight benefits, love the community involvement.

    Cons

Tough to get everything done during work hours (salaried). Expect to answer texts and emails nights and when on PTO.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the communication and family culture. You've made it feel like a small company instead of one with 15,000 employees.

I have been working at Alaska Airlines as an intern

    Pros

Instead of treated like just an intern, I was an addition to a production support team working on existing systems. It was the best way to learn about all the technologies being used.

    Cons

Not necessarily working with the latest and innovative technology. The offices are old too.

    Advice to Management

Love the agile environment. continue doing so

    Pros

Great travel benefits, although flights are often full. Work with a diverse fun set of coworkers. Airline is growing quickly, seniority is rapidly improving.
